    Weird e-mail I received

At the end of this message, you are asked a question.

Answer it immediately. Don't stop and think about it.

Just say the first thing that pops into your mind.

This is a fun "test"... AND kind of spooky at the same time! Give it a
try, then post it as a new bulletin with your "score". Be sure to put in
the subject line if you are among the 98% or the 2%. You'll understand
what that means after you finish taking the "test".

Now.. just follow the instructions as quickly as possible.

Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous
    one..

You do not ever need to write or remember the answers, just do it using
    your mind.

    You'll be surprised.

    Start:

    How much is:

    15 + 6

    3 + 56

    89 + 2

    12 + 53

    75 + 26

    25 + 52

    63 + 32

I know! Calculations are hard work, but it's nearly over..

    Come on, one more...

    123 + 5

QUICK! THINK ABOUT A COLOR AND A TOOL!

    A bit more...

You just thought about a red hammer, didn't you?

If this is not your answer, you are among 2% of people who have a
    different, if not abnormal, mind.

98% of the folks would answer a red hammer while doing this exercise.

If you do not believe this, pass it around and you'll see.

Be sure to put in the subject line if you are among the 98% or the 2%

I had Red Hammer - Thats messed up.

I'd love to know the reasoning behind it, and whether the mathmatical exercise has anything to do with it... Would people think of red first and hammer first, without being forced to add? I'd guess when asked to recall an item in a collection, most people choose from a list thats ordered in some way. (ie Red is the 1st color in the rainbow)

I don't even think I've ever seen a red hammer.

damn. now I'm going to be thinking about this all day.

I'm willing to bet it's because they are the simplest, most common of the two. red for color, hammer for tools.

I find it more interesting(which is why the thread was made), that so far the stat is practically reversed. that fear of normality i think. i question honesty, since even i hated to admit that i got red hammer.

    orange drill...not even close....

I think that the "typical answer" of a red hammer is from people that dont use tools. I'd bet only 2% of people use tools regularly, and thats why their answers are different...I'd hardly call those people abnormal.

If you use a tool you would most likely not think of a red hammer IMHO as there aren't many, rather a brand of power tool, or particular color of a tool that you do use.
I find I use screw drivers and drills about 20x more frequently then I use a hammer...
maybe thats just me..but thats why I thought of orange...its the black & decker color.

I think the math is trying to clear your mind for the question, but that's just a guess. I said red hammer as well, and fwiw I use a lot of tools. If I wanted to be "cool" I would've said Maroon Miter Saw or Aquamarine Dremel.

I thought purple for the colour, and then collapsed into giggles because 'purple tool' popped into my head when I moved on to thinking about tools, and I got a mental image of, well, a purple "tool"

    yeah I'm immature.

Even if you use a lot of tools, the fact that you thought of Black & Decker leads me to believe you don't use quality ones.

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
