What makes are bodies so efficient at weightlifting/life in general

How is it that in life or weights, the more you do something, the better you get? Are there any specific nerve groups or impulses that make us more efficient every time we do something?

One aspect of adaptation is neurological. The contraction of muscle (and muscle contraction is the basis of all movement) is "regulated" by electrical impulses that are delivered by the nervous system. Adaptation of the nervous system basically amounts to greater efficiency in delivering these signals. This includes changes in signal strength, frequency or length. The result is a greater efficiency in muscle fiber recruitment to accomplish a given task.
