    why do bodybuilding mags suck?

where i work there's mags so i read them sometimes, and i always see things i think aren't right, or that i know for sure they're wrong/misleading. this takes the cake tho.

    february 2005 men's fitness, p.28:

"Creatine ; dose: 20-25 grams/day, for up to eight weeks"
(apparently it's a good idea to constantly be in a loading phase? and i guess i could understand why they wouldn't recommend staying on for more than 8 weeks at that level)

"melatonin ; dose: 5-10mg, taken a few hours before bed"
(i use melatonin frequently, and 10mg is ridiculous. totally unnecessary even w/ tolerance. but we're not talking about tolerance, this is a general recommendation. i can only imagine how many people actually tried this and couldn't keep their eyes open the next day)

and after these ridiculously high recommendations, they advise a dosage of fish oil of only up to 2000mg daily, which is like 2 fish pills.

do other people notice stupid stuff like this in mags? i always seem to find contradictory or misinformed info.

they suck because they are all whores to supplement companies who really run the magazines by telling everyone to get on an all supplement diet.

they are not all bad. i'm not saying i agree with everything i read in them, but there is something to be learned from them. i started my learning about bodybuilding with a subscripion to muscle and fitness and i am still able to learn a little from each issue i read. you just have to be smart enough to not believe everything you read

Muscular Development has come around a lot. I subscribed recently.
Out of the night that covers me,Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In The fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the horror of the shade And yet the menace of the years finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate how charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

    Pretty much.

Basically magazines need to publish new articles every month, and these articles have to be totally new and original. No one wants to read what they know, or buy what everyone else offers. Therefore, the magazine writers come up with alot of crap to intrigue people with new "ideas", the same people that will purchase these magazines every month.

There is a mag that is really good. Very few ads. Mainly because its part of a subscription to my gym. Experience Life. It's not body building mag but its a general fitness mag. People can buy it without the gym membership and they usually keep out anything that sells their gym to anyone. A lot of stuff in it is on cardio and toning and nutrition but def worth a look at.

NOTE: few ads because they shank us enough with the gym memberships they can afford to run their own mag the way they want.

Why bother with mags when WBB has great articles and all the members for info.
    And it FREE.

that's what I'm thinkin too..why waste money on magazines filled to the rim with bs, when you have the internet and WBB..there is so much information online, no mag will ever be able to reach the same level.. mags are a big tuttut if you have to chose between the magazines and the internet hehe

I think the majority of bodybuilding magazines on the market today are geared for the beginning lifter to the intermediate lifter. If you really look at bodybuilding or weight lifting, its hard to make it exciting or interesting on a monthly basics. That’s why the majority of the articles are written poorly from a technical aspect.

I prefer to read books that are sometimes boring.
    What am I on?
My back for the bench press.
    My feet for the squat.
    What are you on?

hmmmmm.......... ATTENTION ALL LOYAL MEN'S FITNESS READERS, who went out and bought melatonin in bulk. We here at MEN'S FITNESS now, in our most recent issue, claim melatonin to be completely useless. we are sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused.

but seriously, how the hell do you go from telling your readers to take completely ridiculous doses of melatonin, then turn around a couple issues later and say that melatonin doesn't work???? aside from the fact that a ton of people find it totally invaluable, why even make yourself look dumb. it's not like nobody that is subscribed would catch it (i'm NOT subscribed btw). also, aside from contradicting the hell out of yourself, that's a bad claim. i know placebo effect and everything, but i also know many people who prefer melatonin to benadryl and otc sleep meds; i myself went from unisom sleep gels to melatonin and noticed much improvement.

haha that would be nice. magazines just suck. that's all there is to it. i want to tell everyone who buys them that they're just gonna get even more confused about nutrition and training, but i get this feeling with half the stuff i sell so i just keep my mouth shut.

i am almost as bothered by the statement as i am the contradiction. calling melatonin useless just seems really ignorant. if it were truly placebo i would concede, but it'd be easier to convince me creatine is placebo than melatonin. (come to think of it, it wouldn't be so hard to convince me creatine is placebo haha. of course i continue to take it)
