Anyone else got this? It kills me. Somedays it's good. Other days I have heartburn like you wouldn't believe. I'm sick of taking antacid tablets. Does anyone have any home remedies besides milk, cottage cheese, etc.? I need something that is long lasting.
Yeah man i get the same thing, going trought like a pack of rolaids in one siting on bad days, i think its due to my drinkin tho

Find out what it is that you eat that makes it bad. Then stop eating it.

vinegar. Eat your salads with olive oil and vinegar atleast once a day and bye bye acid reflex.

Will the vinegar work all day? And what are it's other benefits? Doesn't it have anti-oxidants?
Just do it and let us know how it worked!

but back to the post, i actually have some reflux going right now as i type this. i find that alka seltzer does the trick for me. i dont think the milk/cottage cheese route is a very good one because even though it may coat your esophagus/stomach remember that milk is acidic, so it may worsen your reflux. the vinegar sounds like a good idea, i may try that. would pounding a shot of vinegar take care of the acid reflux?
make it apple cider vinegar if you can; supposed to be additional health benefits to that over plain white (look it up)
Well I bought myself some just tonight. I'll let you know how it works.
Vinegar is more acidic than milk. Vinegar has a pH of ~3, whereas milk would be almost neutral.Originally Posted by theperfectbeast

so you want something that is basic?
I wasn't answering the question. I was just saying that milk wouldn't be as acidic as vinegar.Originally Posted by waynis

Why do we take antacid tablet's that contain base compounds such as Calcium Carbonate, to neutralise the stomach acid?Originally Posted by waynis

acid reflex is mostly cuased by eating too much food and eating it too quickly. You can avoid it by eating smaller meal portions and non starchy carbs. The acid from the food backs up causing heart burn and such. But it's not becuase you have too much acid but because your body couldn't digest all that food at once and pushed that acid up. You take anti-acids to get rid of the acid that backed up.. not because you have too much acid. The acid from the vinegar will help you break down the food better. Calcium carbonate will only nutralise the acid coming up into the esophagus.Originally Posted by fen2zla

Interesting stuff. I will have to try the vinegar trick next time I have heart-burn.Originally Posted by waynis

I've had this for years. Even when I was eating hardly anything. Recently I think I might have solved it.
I was getting constipated a lot, not going regularly enough. I started eating raw carrots and raw garlic once or twice a day. I also started on a course using Bentonite clay and Probiotics. Prune juice is good as well.
I've also got hydrochloric acid tablets for increasing the acid in your stomach. Haven't tried these yet as things seem to have cleared up.
When I was experiencing acid reflux my ENT specialist put me on a strict diet... there was pages of stuff to avoid. He also had me follow simple rules like not laying down or sitting around after eating, raising the head of your bed 2-4 inches, and oddly enough taking Nyquill before going to bed. He did put me on some meds to help control it because it was so bad. But I have continued to follow these rules with the exception to my bed.... but I haven't had anymore problems and I have identified the two food that give me crippling heart burn....peppers and italian sausage which my family oddly enough consumes a lot of.
Just take some time to take care of your body and listen to it... it will let you know what makes it feel good and not so good.
I can't handle pepperonies.
