what's the difference between rolled oats and oat bran?

i am about to (well, my gf is about to) make some bars that i found a recipe for on the site. it calls for 1 cup uncooked oats. i have some oat bran, and i was going to add it into the recipe, because i guess it's good for fiber. i was gonna have her sub some bran for uncooked oats, but then realized that they seem to be the same damn thing. did i buy that bag of oat bran for nothing, considering i eat oats daily?

oatbran is simply the 'bran' or hard part of an oat grain. oatbran contain per cup oatbran contains more fiber and less carbs over all, as well as more protein. im sure you could sub it in for the rolled oats... i find they also expand alot more in water when you cook them.

oat bran is just as nutritious if not more so than oats, you can sub it in just fine, however your macros will change as oat bran is less calorie dense due to the high amount of fiber, i think about 60g oat bran is around 150 cals and 40g oats is 150 cals.
