Im strong on chin-ups (Relatively!!!Relatively!!) but on palms-away back excercises like pullups and barbell rows im a lot lot weaker, weaker than i should be for just having no biceps involved
My question is whether concentrating on barbell rows, will my lats be worked just as hard even though im using much lower weight?? Are my weak forearms/brachius (? etc) limiting the overload i can put on my lats??
You probably have relatively strong(er) biceps and weak lats.

Hijacking here: I did bent over rows for the first time yesterday and I had to use a belt to keep my back straight. I did them after DLs so I really needed them, but I was just wondering if the belt is necessary? Was it overkill or is it ok to use a belt even though I'm not working my lower back in the given exercise.
I do fullbody in a day
PM workout (after squats) is 3-4 barbell rows, then 2-3 chins. I dont do any other bicep work
My fresh chinning strength is BW(174lbs)*75lbs * 5-8, while my fresh barbell row is 176lbs*5

1) your biceps are involved when doing palms facing or away. just when they are facing away they do not get the same pump. but they are working just as hard but they will limit the overload put on your lats if they fail earlier in the exercise then doing plams facing a other direction.Originally Posted by ZebraShu
2) no, your lats will not be worked as hard. do they way you can use most weight.
my exprience - joined gym 10 years ago, 6 1/2 years hard weight training exprience.
It really just sounds like you need to get used to the rowing exercise itself... keep practicing it.
