Whatever you do...opt for general anesthesia. I had a choice of general or local...i chose local. I figured wtf, you only get it done once right (im wierd that way)? I only had 2 come in and they were both impacted. The local anesthetic wore off halfway thru the procedure =(. THey had to inject again and i had to sit there bleeding for 10 minutes in pain until started working. The poor dental assistant had to sit there and suction the blood the whole time....she looked liek she was in more pain then me so it must have been ugly.

Then i came back in like a few days later so they could show me how to clean out the pockets to avoid infection and stuff. The nurse who was showing me was obviously having a REAL BAD day, she was just fuming about something. SO, she was tlakin all fast and took the plastic syringe and jammed it back into one of my pockets realllly hard and sucked allt he fluid and junk out really fast.

One of the worst experiences of my life. On top of all that i had it done when i was 17 and at that time my metabolism was the highest its ever been in my life. I was eating choke food like 6 times a day. So not being able to eat anyhting but soup, crackers, and smoothies for like a week SUCKED.

    That is all......have fun.

You will probably notice jaw cracking. Then eventually some pain in the jaw and area in which they are growing in. It's not severe though. The real pain is after the surgery I only had 3 wisdom teeth removed cause that's all I had. Wierd. haha

I second that general anesthesia, I had it done, and I don't remember anything about the procedure. Was also painless for me afterwards as well, but I guess thats the exception and not the rule to tell the truth.

Not everyone has the money for general anesthesia, or insurance. But most people shouldnt need it. I wish I had had the money, my dentist said I had the biggest teeth he had ever seen in his life, my surgery took 2 hours longer than he had planned and he had to change gloves 5 times. And of coarse keep sticking in the needle to numb me, over and over. It was pretty bad.

My little brother played competitive basketball 3 hours after getting his wisdom teeth out. There is really no way to know, just have lots of liquid meals ready and hope for the best. Good luck.

I had a friend who was eating icecream and cheesesteaks days after surgery like it was nothing. He said he had no pain and wasn't even on pain killers. I was on a liquid, yogurt, applesauce diet for almost 2 weeks. Lost a couple pounds. It sucked. Glad i'll never have to go threw that again.

I was only in a little pain for one day. I went out and drank the next night. And ate solid foods the next day too. It sucks to only chew with your front teeth though. It's a slow process.

How common is it for one to have to have their wisdom teeth removed?
The half-million citizens of the District of Columbia, like citizens of the fifty states, bear all of the obligations of American citizenship: they are required to obey the laws passed by Congress; they pay federal taxes; they serve in the military; and they fight and die in our wars. Yet they lack the most basic right that should accompany American citizenship—the right to full voting representation in Congress. This makes the United States the only nation in the world with a representative, democratic constitution that denies citizens of its capital representation in the national legislature. In fact, no fewer than 183 nations provide their citizens the type of representation citizens of Washington, DC are denied.

I'd say pretty common-atleast it's pretty common that people SHOULD have it done, but some don't.

All four of mine were impacted level 4/5. But they didn't hurt at all.

All I can say is this. DON"T HAVE YOUR DENTIST REMOVE THEM! Go to a maxillofacial (sp?) surgeon. He had all four of my wisdom teeth out in less than 5 minutes. That's less time than it actually took to get everything all set up. PLus, I felt no pain at all and they gave me percocet afterwards. In fact, when I woke up, I said "can I do that again?"

Mine were the same way. Only I had mine scheduled to be removed and the two bottom ones abscesed. So I ended up on antibiotics and my surgery was a couple days later. I had local done and in less than 30 mins all four were out and I was stiched up...total piece of cake! I only took Aleve for a couple of days and I was back to normal till the stiches dissolved.

Hmmm, cause mine are still in there. I didn't have any trouble with mine except it hurt like a mofo when they were coming in. I guess I got lucky.

I just remembered: The worst pain is when I went back a few days later to have my stitches removed. The dumbass woman who was snipping them, kept snipping my gums. She said, "wow you're bleeding a lot." I told her if she would stick to cutting the stitches, I might not bleed so much.

Getting your wisdom teeth out is fun. You get a surplus Vicodin or Oxycotin. By the time I had quit having pain in my mouth (about a week after the surgery) I had around 20 pills left.

I also recently went to the dentist and they said that I need to get my wisdom teeth taken out. A couple of mine have basically already came in, but the other 2 have just started to come in. But I didn't feel ANYTHING as my teeth came in; I have had no pain and they haven't bothered me at all (though they're probably not completely in). I just thought that maybe I wouldn't have to get them pulled since they aren't bothering me (at least I was hoping so), but I guess I have to get them pullled. I probably am going to get them pulled pretty soon. But what is the big deal about getting them pulled, what's the difference if they aren't bothering me? What's going to happen if I keep them?

if you dont have money for general anaesthesia, have them hit you with a dental hammer on the back of the head.

I had mine out at age 29. Went under general anesthesia and don't remember a thing. I remember the oral surgeon looking at me, injecting the meds, a burning up my arm and across my chest, him saying "Nighty night", and then waking up in another room. I didn't have a whole lot of swelling, a little bit of bruising. They had to crack my jawbone to get one of the roots out since I waited until I was super old to get them out (I got them out then because one got infected and all four were impacted). I didn't have a whole lot of pain, got oxycontin and demerol. I lived off of KFC mashed potatoes for about 3 days. They are a lifesaver! Best thing was I thought it would cost me about 2000 since my dental insurance didn't cover any of it, but my medical insurance paid every penny! Get it done while you're young and it's not a big deal at all. I'd do it again in a heartbeat to get a couple more days off work again.

You may want to go see an oral surgeon. They can tell you if that's normal or if you need to get them out ASAP.
