    Just A Rant

I've never seen one of my kind in the gym. Well that's kind of a lie. When I went to Powerhouse gym, there was one other "man". A real "MAN" squats, benches, AND Deadlifts. I think the only time I've ever seen anyone besides myself do a deadlift was in high school. The girls track coach did/does them. Everyone else is just a little bitch. Unless you've got a legit excuse. But everyone else, MAN UP! Psshh......posers.

I think he means everyone is doing machines stuff. I hearing guys talking about building blah blah blah and then catch them on the machines doing benchpress and machine curls.

It's because all most guys want is a big chest, shoulders and arms. They are only interested in lifting as far as it goes to impress the opposite sex.

I've never understood the hostility toward the so called "curl jockeys". Can someone fill me in? Do they not deserve to be in the gym? If I see some guy doing EZ Curls, cable flys, bench, and military press does that make him a curl jockey? Is it that they take equipment usage time away from the people who are more deserving in using that equipment? That seems elitist to me.

I don't pay attention to jack **** in the gym other than what I'm lifting and doing. Not what frat-boy-phil is doing in the next room.

I really could care less unless someone's in the rack when I need to squat or bench heavy.

Even then I either just wait a minute or ask to work in.

Doing DL's is one of the best feelings you can get out of a lift.. much more satisfying than bench of squat will ever be for me. Something in the movement must release a ton of endorphins or something similar

Getfit: You're definitely not a poser! Don't hurt me! :'(

To the rest: Deadlifting rocks! You feel great when you get done. Doing a lift that most newbs can't do correctly and with great form, I don't know. Try it' you'll understand then. Gotta love those natural highs. Only thing I've experienced that was better was a 5k run.

Ya, they are bad for the knees
"It is often said, mainly by the "no-contests", that although there is no positive evidence for the existence of God, nor is there evidence against his existence. So it is best to keep an open mind and be agnostic. At first sight that seems an unassailable position, at least in the weak sense of Pascal's wager. But on second thought it seems a cop-out, because the same could be said of Father Christmas and tooth fairies. There may be fairies at the bottom of the garden. There is no evidence for it, but you can't prove that there aren't any, so shouldn't we be agnostic with respect to fairies?"

    Richard Dawkins

"Out of all of the sects in the world, we notice an uncanny coincidence: the overwhelming majority just happen to choose the one that their parents belong to. Not the sect that has the best evidence in its favour, the best miracles, the best moral code, the best cathedral, the best stained glass, the best music: when it comes to choosing from the smorgasbord of available religions, their potential virtues seem to count for nothing, compared to the matter of heredity. This is an unmistakable fact; nobody could seriously deny it. Yet people with full knowledge of the arbitrary nature of this heredity, somehow manage to go on believing in their religion, often with such fanaticism that they are prepared to murder people who follow a different one."

Put all the weight you have on the bar and deadlift anyway. Light is better than no deadlifts at all.

I ran into the same problem a little while ago... I was able to put all the weight I had at home on my bar and DL it for reps easily. So, I went out and bought some more weights Trust me it's worth it. Unless you're hurting for space or something you'll be really happy with buying a little extra weight and starting to DL.

As for the whole curl jockey thing... I really don't get it. These guys want big arms and maybe chest but they leave out some of the best mass building exercises for arms (not really chest) such as rows, DL, and Squats. Although they don't work your bi's or tri's directly I have put more mass on my arms from those exercies than I could possibly put on by just sitting there and curling a bar for hours.

I can't dead due to injury, but I used to. If you're able, I think you have no excuse for not doing them.

You should only pull deadlifts to your knees-if you go past that you will injure your knees and be crippled. Its also safer to deadlift in a smith machine-and have someone spot/help you with the weight on the way-be sure to use gloves too

If ( Big If) you decide you want to do Olympic Squats, aka, ATF squats, and you experience some discomfort in the knees, or hips, or ankles, then I would suggest you take a few months and do some bodyweight or hindu squats, full depth-this will activate and condition the joints and associated soft tissue to get used to this range motion. Think about it like this-dis-use of any bodypart or any joint results in stiffness and loss of range of motion-how often in life do you squat. Now, in other parts of the world, most of them third world nations, etc. they squat all the time, (rather than sitting, which btw, sitting is VERY hard on your lower back) Most of the patients we see at our clinic with chronic lower back pain are people with either desk jobs or who drive for a living. Anyway, if a joint and associated soft tissue has not been used and all of a sudden, you go into a gym, and start doing full depth squats, then of course you are going to feel it in those un-used/un-stressed areas-this is where the old " full squats are bad for your knees because they hurt theme came from-of course there will be some pain-but not for very long as your joints and mechanoreceptors get used to the new range of motion and adapt accordingly.

but you can still get good development from less than full squats-its just better for the whole body if you can do them.

Any indications of pain on your body when doing deadlifts PROPERLY? Is it suppose to work the quads and hamstrings also ?

Obviously lower back muscle soreness, but I get some weird strain around my tailbone area.

I love these posts every 3 weeks or so from some noob who states if you dont deadlift, eat a postworkout shake, or adhere to some other bull**** tough guy criteria, your a girlie man, or better yet a poser. They really do make me smile.

Good to see such open minds from a bunch of 150lbs "bodybuilders" or would you rather be called "real men".

    Sorry just a rant.
