Everyone here that has a partner (wife/husband girl friend/boy friend) How long have you been together? and is it true what they say...is it pointless to date in high school because theres so much **** and drama? Sorry I'm just a hopeless lover I guess...![]()
It's not pointless to date in high school.
The chances you'll end up with the person you're dating right now are quite slim, but still. There are always stories of happiness from the same situation.
I've been with same girl for nearly 5 years, met her in high school (we didn't start dating until I entered college, though).

It's not pointless. However, if you find yourself always staring at other girls, and second guessing, then it might be pointless.

everyone is unique, I would love to label all high schoolers immature and incapable of maintaining a long term relationship. However there are the select few who make it work and more power to 'em.

High school romances are not pointless just the same as first jobs are not pointless and playground sports are not pointless- they provide you with experience you will find necessary later in life when it comes to bigger relationhips, jobs, fitness, etc. You may luck out and end up staying with your high school sweetheart but even if you don't- make sure you learn from the experience.

I hate to be the only negative person in the thread but at 14 I really don't know that you're emotionally developed to even know what "Love" is. I'm not sure I know what love is and I'm 23. Have I been in love? I think so. Have I said that I loved significant others? Yes. Does this mean that i had any idea what I was talking about? No.
I do know that of all my friends in high school, 2 couples got married right out of school and both are now divorced. Take from that what you will. You may really have feelings for your girlfriend and I don't want to discount them but as with everything in life, take it with a grain of salt. Know that things change, people change, and in the end, everything will work out the way its supposed to.
Is it premature at the point in the thread to say that "love is different for different people"? I would say that anything past the short infatuation period can beging to be classified as love (aside from obsession), and high school sweethearts who have been together for years very well may know what love is- the pure, unjaded kind.

I've been single for *checks his wrist watch* um....a little over seven months now. Easy come, easy go.
And if you think HS is full of drama, wait till you reach your mid-30s.

people create their own drama, at every age and in every social strata/group
if you don't like drama, seek out people that are of similar mindset and date THEM
when I was 14, I knew several girls my age that were mature and not into the drama/BS; of course most of them wanted to date older dudes but that's another story
Met my wife in my last year of HS and been together ever since...
But like the others have said... at 14... you will see that your entire world will change by the time your 18 then again by the time your 22-23... everything that is important to you now will become a joke in 4-5 years... that's just life...
But I believe that HS teaches you great life lessons... like realizing that all the popular kids in HS almost never amount to jack ****... :-)

Dating in high school will give you a good solid base for your later years, I never dated in highschool becuase I was really shy with the ladies. I started dating right after high school though and went through several different girls trying to figure it out, got my heart broken once and learned alot from it. I'm dating an older woman now, she is really cool and thats just what I'm doing, playing it cool, no more falling right from the beginning, thats how I got my heart broke in the first place. My only advice to you is play hard to get.

P.S. My First love was Brittany from Colorado, I had to put that on there for SpecialK, he knows what im talking about.
6.5 years and relationships are only easy in spurts.
So your girlfriend is easy and she spurts?
Why does this not surprise me?
Next thing, you'll be having four-way around-the-worlds with her and two sheep.

I'm still with my girlfriend of almost 7 months...I don't know how it happened....just came into college and out of a semi-long relationship (which I have thus surpassed) and was lookin to go all college-crazy and whatnot. Then BOOM...I have a girl....But she's the greatest and I couldn't ask for anything more.
I tried to stay away from relationships in high school because I was too busy with school, football, and friends. I think a serious relationship in high school, when you should be growing and learning, isn't the best idea.
But then again...I'm in college--where one should be growing and learning...and I have a girlfriend..so I guess this makes my last point hypocritical.Hmm......
Whatever, I say if you really like (love?) someone, then be with them...but don't go looking for a relationship, because it probably won't turn out as well as you think it might.
Bah. I don't make sense.![]()
That's very true. A lot of people are under the impression that being in love means you don't have any problems and everything is always gravy. The truth is it's any but that. Both individuals have to be willing to contribute to the relationship and maintain it. There are always going to be rocky times.Originally Posted by galileo

It's not pointless if you get some poontang and some 'skills'. It is pointless if you expect to find a relationshi(t) this early in life. You're more than likely just setting yourself up for a big disappointment.
There's so many girls out there, why limit it to what you find in your small community. Travel the world. Love will come to you when it happens, you can't find it.
Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f**king big television.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Met my wife at 14. Was friends for several years. She married and ass at 18 and pregnant. Divorced him before Michael was born. We re-met about the time michael turned 3. He's 17 now and we have been married almost 14 years and have 2 other sons ages 10 and 8. She's my best friend and loafing partner.Originally Posted by Gyno Rhino

I married my "high school sweet heart." We've been together now almost 10 years. The key to lasting is that you change as a couple. Well, there's more but that's a big one.

"Test all things; hold fast what is good.": 1 Thessalonians 5:21
"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
