I usually warm up with a set of 12. Then procede with a 10, 8, 6.
Any of you guys do lreps of 5-7 or like if you have a set rep at 6 and you feel you could do 8 would you do 8reps or still stop at 6?

8 is my move-on point, except for biceps, which i'm using a 6 rep move-on point. they've really responded to this heavy weight/low reps stuff.
what do you mean move on point?Originally Posted by mrelwooddowd

No more than 12 (warmups), no less than 5.
it dipends on the exercise, but usually i stay within 5 - 12. When i can do 2 more reps thats when i up the weight.

15 reps or so..extremely slow
then, 135 x 8
155 x 8
165 x 6
if i had hit 8 on 165, i'd have gone up to 175, to see if i could get 8...
if i had been going for a new 1rm, i'd have done about 6 reps at 135, maybe one at 185, then shot for 205 (which i already got), or 215 or whatever i'm going for.
some people do the exact opposite of me, and warmup, do something in the middle for a few, then go for 80% or so of their 1rm until spent..then they work progressively lighter, and fewer and fwere reps..
such as...
bw warmup
155 x 4
190 x 3
190 x 3
190 x 2
175 x 5
155 x 8
135 x 8-9 (or whatever)
135 x 8
and keep at it until they feel worked enough to move-on to the next chest movement..
Anyone do reps of 8, 7, 6?

i usually do these for exercises i use the same weight, like curls. When i only use 35lb dumbell, and usually when i go for failure, which is like twice a month.Originally Posted by brewski053

Depends...if I'm doing bench and I say that i'll do 200 for a 5x5 then the first 4 will be done at 5 but the last one i'll either go til I drop or I'll do it 5 and add weight and do another 5. If i'm doing a max effort day though I stick to the rep range and just add weight at the end, like today I was working up to a 230 max bench and it went up easy so I did a 235 after it.Originally Posted by brewski053
Don't be so concerned with particular rep ranges. just pick one and improve the weights your moving and the number of reps you can get.

Iv been doing reps of 12, 10, 8, 6 forever. I was just thinking about switching it up, maybe taking out the 10 and throwing in a 7 :whoknows:Originally Posted by MixmasterNash

1-12 for me, but i am trianing for strenght as major goal more than some of you on here.
my exprience - joined gym 10 years ago, 6 1/2 years hard weight training exprience.
I have done just about every rep range over the years.
As of late, I have been using a stair-step type of program. I will start with 20 reps one workout and then move down by 5 reps or so each workout per body part until I get to heavy singles or doubles. I will stick with the heavy work for a few workouts until I feel I need a break and then move back to the 20 reps and start over.
I Generally use 4-8 reps for worksets.
