I just bought a dodge ram 1500 about 6 days ago its black with a clear coat, i was wondering does anyone know if its ok to wax it already?
No, I wouldn't do that. Paint takes a long time to cure even though it's dry, and waxing will screw that up. I heard on a show sponsored by Mothers (good stuff) that you should wait 6 months.Originally Posted by Munky
I was told 6 weeks after having a car painted once, but it's all going to depend on how long your truck sat on the lot. You can look around on it (usually it says on the doorjamb), and it'll say when it was assembled. Or, you can look up the VIN somewhere..in the VIN, it usually has the month of production.
After I painted my car I waited a month until I wetsanded / polished it, then an additional month before I actually waxed it. I think you should be fine with waxing it right now, most dealerships put a wax sealant on vehicles before they sell them anyways.
Oh, and have fun owning a big black vehicle, I hope you like waxing on a weekly basis.

The six week and six month thing is bull. A week or two is good. I do this for a living on show cars. As long as it has had at least a week you should be cool. My two cents Mothers is ok. But for the money they want for it it is not worth it. BTW, have fun with that black paint, lol.
i like Zymol..
Yeah black is a pain to clean but it looks great.
shows sratches VERY easy...

My sig scared getfit.
I am not joking, but one of the best I have found is that New Finish in the bright orange bottle. I last a good while and it is easy to work. But if you dont mond working your ass off a good carnuba paste wax is one of the best to me. But to each his own. It gets hummid as hell down here in the south and wax will do different things in different climates,
Yah, the Nu Finish is pretty good. It restores the shine pretty well. But aren't you supposed to put a sealant wax on top of that or something?

Nope, that is both a sealent and deoxidizer. I need spelling classes, lol.
