Tom Cruise at British premiere 'WHAT A JERK!!!!!'

Did anyone here about this? Absolutely hilarious.
A bunch of guys doing a new comedy show for British tv were interviewing Tom Cruise at the premiere of War of the Worlds.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...lm/4107922.stm

I don't know about you, but after this I've lost all respect for Tom Cruise. It just shows how that whole nice guy image is put up to make himself feel loved. He's repulsively fake. As soon as people were laughing at him, instead of with him ,he didn't know how to react. He behaved like a spoilt child, can't he take a joke?
In fact it makes me proud to be British. The next time you yanks send over any of your ego inflated celebrities, we'll do far worse.

I don't think he (Mr. Cruise) did anything wrong. He got pissed and he showed it.

Plus, if he took the joke, he might be tacitly condoning this sort of behaviour. If the "interviewers" get away with what they did, it may give others ideas that this stuff is okay to do. Who knows what'll happen to Mr. Cruise (or any other public figure, for that matter) next time? Someone could get hurt.

    Yeah, I agree.

And no celebrities from the U.K. have inflated egos either...right...

It must be a UK thing because that isn't particularly funny and Tom Cruise handled that better than anyone I know would. Just read this quotation

"I'm here giving you an interview, answering your questions and you do something nasty. You're a jerk."

The actor held the interviewer back and repeatedly called him "a jerk".

Security guards arrived and Cruise towelled himself down before signing more autographs.
I don't see how he acted poorly at all. Let's see how you'd hold up in his situation. I guarantee you would react more severely than him...

People wonder why I call myself Mr. T. One dude asked, 'does the T stand for tough?' I said no. Another dude asked if the T stands for my last name, Tureaud. No it does not. The 'T' in Mr. T stands for tuna. T loves tuna.

They got off easy compared to what most people would have said or done. That's disrespectful and something you would see in 6th grade.

Ok the video didn't show everything. Basically after that he insisted on detaining the men, and is now pressing charges for assault. I mean assualt! I was listening to the radio and he was saying how 'He tries hard to make people feel happy, then nasty people come along and do that.' and how he can't believe 'people like that exist in the world'. It was a bunch of guys doing an innocent harmless prank for a comedy show that's probably gonna' be more entertaining than his latest offering. He just didn't know how to react when people weren't sucking his d*ck for a change.
He's earned millions and millions of $s, mostly through luck and being in the right place at the right time. The least he can do is humour a few guys who quite rightly want to parody the abusrdity of celebrity.
    He acted like an idiot.

Cruise had no way to know it was just water. People do stupid stuff.

I'd be pissed if some stranger walked up to me and squirted me with something in the face.

Only one person is being an idiot and that isn't anyone related to this story. Tom Cruise made millions acting and appealing to an audience that spans the globe. Some clowns are trying to make a quick buck embarrassing cruise and assaulting him in the process. I hope he does press charges. It's absurd that celebrities should be expected to put up with stupid nonsense simply because they're famous. I also don't see how that prank was "innocent and harmless" when they intended (and successfully) embarrassed Tom Cruise at a public appearance with the full intention of using that footage to later make money for themselves. Also the only laugh I've had in this thread comes from your comment:

There's a lot more to becoming the success that Tom Cruise is, than just pure luck and being in the right place. Quit hating on consistently successful celebrities. If it was that easy to be one, everyone would be.

Yes I'm sure any of us mere mortals, myself included, would have gone ape sh*t at the guy. But then we're not celebrities. It was just the way he took it on himself, Saint Tom, to show the guy he was wrong. The prank was funny, it's funny to watch celebrities looking stupid. No I'm not a jealous hater.
Punk'd is American, so you guys do get the joke. I was joking about American celebrities, ours are just as bad.

I gained respect for Tom Cruise after that. He stayed cool and calm, told the guy he was a jerk and didn't loose his temper.

I mean if this happened to me I would have wrapped the mic's cord around this a-holes neck. I thought it was cool that he kept his head on straight, didn't even cause a scene.

I probably would have laughed and then spit in the guys face if it was me, to see if they thought that was funny. But now Tom's the idiot though for being caught off-guard by a prank and not shrugging it off to your standards. That would have pissed off over 90% of anyone in that situation, but I guess that because he's a loaded celebrity, he shouldn't have taken it like a normal person. If someone I DIDN'T KNOW did something like that to me when I was doing something for them, I'd be pissed.

I don't watch Punk'd regularly, but I have seen 3-4 episodes and Ashton doesn't assault anyone in any of the episodes. Also I do believe that the celebrity being "Punk'd" has to give consent for MTV to air the episode. Recently Lil'John recognized he was being punk'd and made a big deal about it so that episode will not air apparently.

Oh come on, am I the only one who found this funny.
Please, for God sake no one call me an idiot or a jerk for this.

Tom Cruise made millions acting and appealing to an audience that spans the globe.
And what have his films done for anyone, except keep them entertained for short periods of time. There's nothing wrong with being a celebrity, I'd love to be one. But at least realise the absurdity of your position, and know that when someone squirts water in your face it's just God telling you to stop having such an ego.

Do you not understand what having a bloated ego entails? Handling the situation calmly and calling the guy a jerk is certainly not the result of someone having a huge ego. It's apparent you have some contempt for celebrities for whatever reason. I doubt Cruise could've reacted in any way that would satisfy you. If he laughed it off and gave high fives all around you'd have posted saying what a fake and spineless loser he is. If he got physical you'd say he's the typical celebrity hot head. etc. etc.

I guess if it was funny, then he might have found it funny too, but it wasn't funny so he reacted like most of us would. Screw that 'humour a few guys who quite rightly want to parody the abusrdity of celebrity' ****.

i think anyone would have done what he did in the moment, doing more would be over the top and being less would make them a pussy. the repetition of the words "your a jerk" made him look kind of stupid, but he was put on the spot here.

all in all, the guys got what they deserved there but i dont think that they should have charges pressed against them (if that had been lsd or liquid x, i would completley disagree with what i just said, but it was water people). so i think in that aspect tom cruise is being an *******, but his immediate reactions were appropriate.

No I wouldn't have said any of those things. If he'd high fived them, which would have been a far cooler reaction, I would have thought he was great.
Ok the way he reacted on video wasn't that bad. But once you've got over the shock of someone pranking you, wouldn't you just see the funny side? I mean pressing charges for assault is ridiculous. You should have heard some of the stuff he was saying on the radio, he was making these guys out to be sadistic paedophiles or something.
Come on remember how Arnie reacted when someone through an egg at him, he said 'That guy owes me bacon!' it was funny, and made him a more likeable celebrity.
We really can't compare ourselves to Tom in this case, because it'e a totally different ball game for us regulars.

Arnold is a politician. The image he portrays to the public directly impacts the likelihood he will be able to carry on his desired career. Tom Cruise could have done absolutely anything in that situation and it would not affect his career at all. Simply put you can't compare the two situations. As it is, he handled it better than anyone I know would. Whether you want to admit it or not, that is assault.

I'll take everyone's word for it that technically speaking it's assault. But for his own dignity he shouldn't press charges. Can you imagine appearing in court saying to the judge, this man sprayed 50ml of water in my face, we must waste many man hours ensuring that he is punished. And I don't think it's that embarassing really, he could have just smiled and walked off, clearly annoyed, but people would have forgotten within a day. Or he could still have had his stern word, but left it at that. But please no assault charges.
