    Question about dumbells.

Well, in a short summary, heres the deal. I would like to get decently big for football. I pretty much had a free bench for my own room, but it cannot fit anywhere in the house. So that is outta the question. I am going to get 2 25lb dunbells. I am wondering all the excerises that I can do with these. A link to all the excerises of some sort would be very helpful. I would also like to target my abs a great deal. What should I buy to work on them? Am I wasting my time just buying a few little things and expecting to get big? Thanks.

You will not get big with 25 pound dumbells.

Join a gym, or workout at school.
    Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei

That would mean next week if you were gradually increasing at a steady rate, next week you'd buy 30s, the week after you'd have to buy 35s.. etc. Not to mention not all exercises require the same weights. You won't be doing deadlifts (db deadlifts) with 25 in each hand if your curling or benching the 25s.

If you can, join a gym, or look for more equipment then just that. Like Paul said, you won't get big with just that. You'll learn how to do more curls with it, or more db bench press.. but you won't get much (if any) stronger or bigger.

get a cage or powerrack, with some olympic weight sets. Dont' buy fixed dumbbells though, storage can be a biatch. I guess with 25lbs dbs you can do kickback?

You can do regular/incline/closegrip pushup, pullup, chin up, dip/dip with a weighted backpack, one legged squat, lunges, one legged calf raise, tricep extension (again with backpack), find something fairly heavy and deadlift the hell out of it (5 gallons of water weigh like 40+lbs). But yeah if you want to grow bigger you have to eat bigger and lift heavier weight.

Yea get a bench if you can, it really is alot better than just dumbells. I started with just dumbells and I didn't get very far. If you can't fit a bench, adjustable dumbells are great. newyorkbarbells sells an excellent pair for $50, threaded, that you can load about 110lbs on. And imo it is waaay worth the $50, it's so much cheaper than fixed dumbells, they can get pricy once you start using 60's etc. But again, you'd be restricted without a bench, especially for chest exercises.

dude, ride your bike, take the bus, or take the train and walk to the gym.

any equipment you buy now - short of a rack and oly. weight set - you will outgrow in a matter of weeks.

Has anyone used those "all in one" dumbbells? The kind that fit in some sort of rack, and you "dial" on the weight. Something like this: http://www.thesportsauthority.com/pr...entPage=family

And tot he original poster: you can get a 40 # set: http://www.thesportsauthority.com/pr...entPage=family

I have seen the powerblocks through magazines and online websites. They look nice, really a space saver... but so dayum pricy. I think they cost like $400.. with that kinda money i rather get a gym membership or a rack. But if you live in the country side and have $$$$ ching ching... you can reconsider.

Um.if he has no room for a bench then sure as hell has no room for a power rack.
Build yourself a shanty. Other than that you are screwed.
Power rack plus an olympic set will be the most versatile if you can conjure the space.
And you can't grow on nothing. You have to eat.

    25 pound dumbells? Screw that.

Go out into your back yard - find the biggest boulder you can just barely manage to lift. Pick it up and throw it in front of you. Step forward. Pick it up again and repeat. Do this until you cant lift it anymore. You will be fine come football season. Repeat every other day.

Bags of sand and rocks are really cheap.

If you're out in the country perhaps there is plenty of wood to chop. If you live near any railroad tracks, walk along the rals with a sledgehammer and drive in any tie spikes that might be sticking up. You'll be doing the railroad a favor and you'll get stronger in the process. Just don't get hit by any trains. You could also get a pulley and some rope, suspend the pulley from a tree, tie the rope around something heavy, and pull it up and down. Maybe you could tie the rope to a car or truck and start pulling. There's all kinds of stuff you can do, just be creative.

I don't get it. Your school has a football team but doesn't have a gym?
