sorry if this has been asked before, i rmeember seein it but i didnt pay attention, but i just noticed that sum people use a mixed grip while deadlifting. is this recommended or it really doesnt matter?
You'll probably be able to pull a good deal more weight with mixed grip than overhand grip. Do what you want though, I don't think it really matters as long as the form is solid
Using a mixed grip creates a lot less risk of the bar slipping out of your hands. I suggest using a mixed grip.
Mixed grip should elminate all grip strength issues.
Use a double overhand as much as possible to build grip strength, and then switch to mixed grip when the weight overwhelms your grip.
Can I jack this thread for a second: I've noticed that mixed grip works one forearm harder than the other, so should I alternate my mixed grip every deadlifting session?

I switch my grips after each set.
I use the overhand grip for my warmup and acclim sets. Then switch to alternate grip for the work sets. This way, as I move up in weight, my acclim sets go up, and my grip gets progressively stronger. And I usually throw the straps on the last two work sets, just in case.

My grip is horrible, so I cant really even benifit from the mixed grip but I can do a bit more with it then the double overhand. Straps and the mixed grip and a must have in my case, go with the mixed for saftey and max out situations and go with double overhand if you want to work grip.
i think ill just keep usin the overhand grip cause i havent had any probelms yet. so far i haveent had any issues at all with deadlifting so i dont wanna **** it up.

i think I switched to mixed when I started getting > 300 for sets of 8-10.

well im deadlifting over 300 but my grip seems fine,
When I didn't use a mixed grip, I shredded a musvle in my lower back and was out for like 8 months, Yes I was using proper technique,except for not using mixed grip.

For me, using a mixed grip seems to put uneven stress on my back. And it never got any better, until I stopped.
Now I just work my grip and use straps rarely and only just to see what I can do. So far it seems to be working much better than mixed grip ever did.

Some people prefer overhand grip for a few reasons. Easier to lock out, no twisting of the back, less risk of bicep injuries.
However, mixed grip will help you hold onto a lot more. Do whatever you like, but keep in mind it will be a bear to switch to overhand if you do mixed for a while.

If the weight is light, i'd try all kind of different grips. But when i go heavy i have to do mixed grip with left hand under/right hand over. I am pulling maximally this way... weird... =)
i tried mix grip today for something different, and I pulled a muscle on the right side of my lower back. I think I pulled it because of the grip
