I just accepted a job in White Plains and will be moving to the area within the next 2-4 weeks.
I dont know the area at all and am looking at different towns to live in within a 25 minute commute.
Its a full time position but doesn't pay super great. I am planning on renting for a year or two and then possibly buying a place depending on how stable I feel the position is.
I'm looking for a "fun" area where there are a good amount of bars/clubs in the area, ideally within walking distance of each other. Hoboken would be ideal but its outside of my budget. Budget is under 1200$ per month in rent.
Any recommendations?

hahhah my goal here is to AVOID trafficbut good try mix!
it should be fun owen!
Geoff,
You could consider Jersey City, it is still a bit cheaper than Hoboken, but not as fun. You could also check out Stamford, CT which is only about 15 miles from White Plains. Some parts of Yonkers are nice. Some parts of Queens (Woodside to name one) could also be good.

"Now we're finally getting to the chicken or the egg question," I grinned. "Did I eat all that food because my size gives me more of an appetite, or did I get to be this big because I've been forcing myself to eat like this for years?"

trying to avoid bridges if possible and I am not a big fan of urban areas
Hoboken is 100% urban, and you said thats your #1 choice.Originally Posted by geoffgarcia

I dunno about that, hoboken seems like just another suburb of NYC to me...
Hoboken is no suburb, 100% urban.Originally Posted by geoffgarcia

Good plan. The housing bubble should burst within the next year or two (it already has in Britain & Australia), so you should be able to get a better deal then. I just hope your new position isn't housing related.I am planning on renting for a year or two and then possibly buying a place depending on how stable I feel the position is.
