I guess I've been lucky in the past, getting mid-round positions, but man this year I got 11th, and I will have to call this the worst spot of all. At least in a 12-teamer.
The 12th man at least can go back to back, so bit easier in that sense, but 11th gets a pick and then 2 picks before his next, so there is still some potential for messing with your plans.
After you make that 2nd pick, you might as well go have a nap. It takes forever, and there is no way to plan. I had about 12 guys queued up that I would possibly take, and when it came my time, all are gone. So there is no point in speculating until 3 or 4 picks before yours.
Anyway, my strategy at that spot, was to pick somewhat reliable players.
First four picks were Dillon, Portis, Horn, and Gonzales. I think it's a good core for a 12 man league.
I could have had Jamal Lewis, as he sank all the way to the end, but I'm not sure I want him, givin his size and the fact that he had ankle surgery.
I think Dillon will be solid, probably not hit last years numbers, but not too much of a drop off. Portis I think will get more TDs this year, he can't do much worse. And even in what ppl think is a horrible year, he had a combined 1500 yards and 7tds.
We reduced QB scoring to a more performance standard of 4 pts for passing TDs, only the commish also made it 25 yds per pt instead of 20. So I waited a little while, and against my own common sense drafted Vick. I didn't overpay though, got him in the 5th or 6th round. I figure with QB scoring being that low, rushing yards from that spot will be a huge advantage. Brooks is backing him up anyway, so still pretty comfy.
All I can say, is picking 11 seriously changes what a team looks like. I usually always go with 3 RBs right from the start, but by the time the snake reached me for my third pick, there were only backups left.
Anyway, thought I'd share, since I know the fever will be catching on soon as more drafts happen.
In case this helps anyone, here is how our draft went. I think the first two guys were on autodraft for the first round or two. I wasn't very well prepared for this draft, as it was earlier than normal and snuck up on me.

Some of your draft mates made some real reaches with their selections. This doesn't speak highly of their intelligence, so you ought to do well in this league.
Some notable stinky picks/reaches, IMHO:
Warrick Dunn in the 3rd
Joey Porter in the 4th
Jason Witten in the 4th??!??
Deshaun Foster in the 4th? (#2 on the depth chart!)
I wouldn't have drafted L.Coles but that's because I've been burned by him before. Actaully you've drafted both him AND Santana Moss, both of whom I took chances on last year and both of whom where utterly underwhelming.
You're right that picking 11th makes it hard in some ways but overall I would say that draft was pretty average for you. If I had to criticize your draft, I'd say that Gonzalez might have been a reach. If he's true to form he'll have a more average season after racking up 1200yards last season.
Also not sure I agree with you that only backups were left over after your 2nd pick at RB...
Travis Henry & Reuben Droughns were still available, to name but two. While Droughns is arguably not a great choice, Henry should have every chance to succeed in Tennessee and while he's a bit riskier than Edge or Dillon or whoever, he's almost certain to be a quality starter. The boy can play.
Some of your comments are based on just plain wrong info my friend. Foster will be the starter in Carolina. Davis is done, and they don't even speak about him anymore. This is why I picked up shelton.
Travis Henry is not the starter either, Chris Brown is.
As for Droughns, let me see. Another back that is leaving the Denver system, which means his numbers are currently inflated. Hasn't played a full season, and lastly is going to one of, if not the worst running teams in the league. The reason I went with a WR instead of him in that round was because I felt that there weren't any RBs that are worthy of starting in the 3rd spot, so I needed to load up on decent receivers with good potential. I've had both Coles and Moss in the past, and been pleased and disappointed both. I think Coles is a better fit going back to play with Chad. If you consider he had a great receiving year last year, just no TDs, I think he has good upside. Moss is a talent, and worked with Ramsey in the offseason, and he was a risk/reward pick.
As for Gonzales being a stretch, I'm not sure why you'd say that. He is usually gone late 3rd round. I got him in the fourth. There were a few stud WRs left, but nobody that you could consider to be consistent. Gonazales has always been a stud, every single year. Last year he had 102 catches so I'm not sure why you'd think he's not a solid choice there. It's not the first time he's had 1200 yards, and he's had more TDs in other years as well. Is it a spike? Maybe. Is it a result of Priest not wanting as many touches, especially passes? Possibly as well. In the end, I was looking for consistency, and even with the few stud WRs out there, they didn't seem as valuable or consistent as Tony G.

Hm. seems like I may need to start researching. To be honest I haven't done my fantasy research since last year.![]()
I'm guessing in many leagues, Davis will go undrafted. I was surprised that someone actually picked him up.
Yeah, I had to give myself the 2-3 day crash course. With Coles going back to NY I actually valued him higher. Considering he had what, 90+ catches last year, I figure he will slide back into a #1 spot nicely with the Jets.
To be honest, I hate having redskin players on my team. But perhaps another year gone by for the coaching staff, a slightly bulked up Portis, and a more mature and uninjured Ramsey with Moss can make a difference.
Ultimately, I feel Portis will at worst do "ok", and Moss was a bit of a flyer, but with 2 RBs I can easily rotate things quite a bit in the other WR/Flex spots. I've also found that I generally have been good at grabbing at least one or two nice pickups off the wire.
Being the guy that grabbed Muhammad last year certainly didn't hurt. Although, I could argue it was at the expense of my draft pick of Steve Smith, which hurt me in both my FF leagues.![]()

12 team league?!?!?! I would hate that - 1 injury and your season is done. We cap it at 10, so you can make a move if you need to - 24 more free agents for people to play around with........
I haven't done any research yet either.....I have one week before my draft!
I like 12 team leagues because you actually have to know something about football to do well. In 10 or less team leagues, everyone has great players, nobody has to worry about backups, or rookie impact players, or speculate on matchups, because they have either good or great players at each position.
It's still fun to play 10 teamers, but it doesn't take very much skill, mostly just luck. 8 team I wouldn't even waste my time though.
