    Thoughts on full body workout

I have been recommended by professional kickboxer with a Ph.D that for a three day split, doing full body routines each day is good.

    ex

    day 1
    bench
    squat
    curl
    etc.

    day 2
    incline bench
    lunge
    hammer curl

    day 3
    db press
    lunge
    curl
    etc.

    or something like that

what are your thoughts of this?

I'd replace the curls with something more productive (like triceps) and add some deadlifts, but other than that ... looks fine.

I feel that full body routines constructed from non-full body exercises are limited and tiring to less than optimal effect. Just my opinion.

If I were to start from scratch as a young 13 year old again, I would do every press, squat, and perhaps deadlifts, for my entire career with chains. -- Dan John

Ah yes, where's the back work? Definitely throw in some chins and rows.

I agree w/ Anthony - I would perform full squats one day, RDLs the next, and conventional deads on the other; also, weighted chins (if you can add weight) and bent-over rows, both sup and pro grips, instead of curls - and you need some dips and close-grips as well

The idea of a full body routine is to use compound exercises so that you hit all muscle groups during the workout - also, if doing all compounds, which is what I do, I would limit the working set time to 45 minutes - w/ warm-ups and post-workout stretching, you'll be out of the gym in roughly 65 mins.
