In italian amusing parks, there is a machine with a heavy bag hanging down from it. You have to throw a punch to the bag as hard as you can and it will go up against a sensor put in the machine. The sensor will determine how hard your punch was and will give you a score. It's really funny and my brother, my father, my uncle and I play this stuff every day when we're on holiday together. My brother always beats me (I have around 200 points, which is average, while my brother always goes above 280...) and he doesn't even lift (actually his bench press is around 50 lbs or so)... he just plays basketball all the time, and basketball does not stimulate arms' growth. I was wondering why he throws such hard punches and I'd like to know what exercises will allow me to beat him... how childish am I![]()

Punch more often. I was just mentioning speed-strength(also known as explosiveness) in another thread. Your brother is able to apply his strength in a shorter amount of time, thus generating more force.

in opinion, having a sick technique is better than strength when it comes to throwing a punch. You might be able to bench 150 kilo, but if you cant twist your hips correctly and swing your shoulders correctly, your punch wil be no good.
i used to do some boxing before, but due to using weights i never had good flexibility which always let me down.

Most peope punch with thier arms. A properly thrown punch starts in the legs. It's why Ken Griffey Jr., as thin (relatively speaking) as he is, has hit so many HRs. Weight shift.
If you want to learn more about punching, study a quality martial art.

I'm with v!c. I use to box, and we would never weight train at all. Secret to a powerful punch is not strength, look at those flyweight boxers they weigh like 130 pounds and can snap your neck with one blow. Its all in the hips/ shoulders, just putting all your weight into each punch, step forward and jerk your hips all while sending your arm flying. Strength may help, but is not key.
proper technique is key. Then bag work, power/explosive type exercises and also good muscle balance/ flexibility in the muscles creating that punch.
