I Need Ideas For A Nutrition Project

Hey guys. I have a nutrition project due at the end of the semester and I need 3 nutrition-related ideas to work with. The project is a 5 minute presentation, so it needs to be a subject that has LOTS of info. What do you guys think would be a good subject to work with? You'll be helping me out a lot by doing this. Thanks.

I got an idea, why don't you do a report or whatever on how your maintenance calorie level fluctuates depending on your diet. That could be interesting IMO.

Thank you. That's one idea. I could go very in-depth with that.

The nutrition project is very open. I pick ANY topic that has something to do with nutrition. And I prepare a 5 minute presentation with a minimum of 3 pages about the chosen topic. Again...the topic can be about literally anything, as long as it has something to do with nutrition. And I know you guys are all creative, so that's why I came here.

If you go through the Nutrition forum I'm sure you could find lots of stuff. You won't get too many replies this late at night since everyone's asleep.

    How about this:
You talk about the way the body uses fat, protein, and carbs and relate it to evolution and natural selection.

From what I understand fat and protein are very much essential to the body while carbs aren't as important. I remember someone saying this had to do with the fact that humans used to be hunter and gatherers back in the day which means lots of hunting animals and gathering nuts I guess (both high in fat and protein I believe). It wasn't until several millenia ago that humans started to cultivate crops (high in carbs) and since then there hasn't been enough time for our bodies to adapt/evolve accordingly.

I don't know if you'd be able to find too much info on the subject but I always thought of this idea as fascinating (I love hearing about evolution to be quite frank).

Or how about the effects of eating disorders on the human body, especially how it can both delay the onset of periods and cause miscarriages.

Come on man, I know you can think of some stuff...

@ fatrb38: Meh...although that sounds quite interesting, I don't want to go too much into evolution. My project has to do more with scientifically proven nutritional info, unless there is something that is controversial, then I'm allowed to debate the topic, although that is quite a bit more work. But hell, I have a few months anyway.

Or how about the effects of eating disorders on the human body, especially how it can both delay the onset of periods and cause miscarriages.
Another great idea that's worth considering.

I know, I know. But my brain is fried from all the midterms and projects I've had this week, so I'm just lookin' for some good ideas...and you've helped quite a bit.

The fat/protein/carb thing is something I got from Built if I remember correctly... yeah I'm pretty sure it was her cuz she's always advocating the low-carb diet stuff.

Hmmm...well the fat/carb/protein thing might not go over well since my nutrition class talks about macronutrient percentages. I would probably have to argue a few points here and there, so it would be interesting. I would get hounded with questions...which I don't mind, since 98% of my class is hot young ladies studying to be nurses.

I could definitely do the caloric maintenance thing. I could compare "normies" to bodybuilders.

Yeah don't worry I know what you mean and it's up to you to pick which subjects you wanna do. Of course I always highly recommend controversial issues but that's just me (maybe the effects of MJ on hunger or something LOL). Good luck with your stuff

I agree. It makes it more interesting so you don't bore everyone to tears. I have to talk for 5 minutes so I definitely don't want to be boring.

    Let's see here what else.

How about why pasta by itself doesn't seem to get rid of hunger very well.
    or
The ratio of fat-to-muscle put on while weightlifting in relation to amount of calories in excess of maintenance (wow does that sentence make grammatical sense?). I know this is a random one but once I was bored between sets and drew out a graph for the function... basically it looked like an x^3 function where 'x' was amount of calories in excess (or under maintenance where 'x' was negative) and the 'y' value was the ratio of fat/protein mass put on. This is assuming good/perfect diet and weight training of course.

These are just ideas, you don't have to tell me whether you approve of them or not, I'm just throwing them out there. I understand that weightlifting may not be a major subject in your course so it might not work and to be quite honest outside of bodybuilders it might not even be interesting.

I think that went over my head. You lost me once you started throwing algebra in there.

Naw, we're always talking about exercise and its benefits in our class and the girls are always eager to know more. Once I pack on about 30-40 pounds I'm probably going to be a personal trainer. They pay about 35-40 bucks an hour at my gym. Getting payed to work out is nice. Not that it has anything to do with my project...

I've approved of most of them so far. You've been helpful, so thanks.

Actually I got my personal training certificate from ISSA (I won't lie, they aren't very prestigious but they're still recognized by the large majority of gyms, and plus I know my stuff anyway) and did some personal training of my own at LA Fitness (a large gym-chain here). Definitely a fun job, especially if you like talking to people because you wil be doing a LOT of conversing.

Anyway I'm off to sleep, when the rest of the Americans wake up in a few hours I'm sure they'll help you out some more. Good luck (again)

Right now scientists are currently doing research on something called the "Kinavanoid Receptor." Its the receptor in the brain that supposedly binds the THC to the cell. However, they're using it to develop a type of apetite suppresant for people who are overweight and have problems with eating. In other words, a drug that blocks the kinavanoid receptor from working at all. Its somewhat intersesting actually. Depending on your resources available, look for some current research, review, put into paper, discuss the relevancy of such studies, relate it to obesity and overeating and how it could be good or bad depending on your point of view.

You could talking about nutrient timing. Always a popular one.

I was wondering how much protein you get from eating bugs.. and how many bugs you'd have to eat to get your 1.5 grams of protein per pound of lbm if you were 200 pounds.. and which bugs taste best.. and which are high in carbs etc.

Do you really think a lack of doing curls is the reason why most guys have less than impressive arms?

Every article on how to improve your chin-ups includes a program with a shitload of chin-ups in it. Is that all you've got? Improve your chin-ups by just doing more of them?
