    An interesting fact I noticed in the gym

    Recently I started working in a huge gym and I get to encounter all kinds of ppl everyday. Part of my job is to ensure safety and assist ppl whenever they need, whether is to spot a 315lbs bench or correct the form of less experience lifters.

    For the past week, I noticed something interesting (or so I felt). That is among all the lifters whose lifting form has alot of room for improvement, 90% of the gym members who lifted wrongly are guys. Yup, while most of the girls working out usually uses pretty good form. In fact, the only girls I noticed who uses not so good form are those who are really new to this game, and their form ain't that bad to begin with, just required a little bit of modification.

    While the group of ppl who trained wrongly are mostly guys..

    Is this what you people see in your gym too?

    It's mostly because guys have a tendency to want to use the biggest weights, even if it means sloppy form.

    Anybody who lifts heavy will do this sometimes.

    I really, REALLY try to keep good form, but I can feel myself cheat a bit toward the end sometimes when I'm really pushing it.

    excatly,the things i've seen in my gym is beyond me, but i don't bother anymore, i tried a couple of times to be helpful but that just turned sour.

    Guys tend to have bad form, while the women use the most non-existant weights possible...that's what I notice. It's such an interesting thing seeing these 2 girls in the gym everytime I go pumping out 100 curls with a 5 pound weight.

    This is a big part of it. Women have better form (sometimes) because they don't push themselves nearly as hard as the guys do.

    And the men who taking BB seriously emphasize form.

    But I'd say the average casuals on both side are fully worthy of their stereotypes.

    Definitely... but there are probably only 5 girls in the big Gold's I go to that are actually serious about training like you and Built... their physiques are also amazing.
    The other 99% are skinny cardio bunnies who are addicted to teh 5lb alternating DB curls.

    Yeah, I think those sterotypes fit pretty most casual lifters, guys use heavy weight and compromise form, and girls do 5lb curls.

    I'm surprised your gym even lets you help people or spot them, seems to be opening up a huge case of liability. I turn a blind eye to bad form, most people don't want to hear it.

    i agree Beast, i hardly ever see women squatting or deadlifting, benching in my gym.

    Dont forget that example of theres a dude 5'8" 240 pounds ripped , looking like he's ready for a contest and some dude always says " that dude needs better form " I love that .

    The huge dude looks better than the guy ever could yet he gets comments about his form .

    Me too. Here's how I look at it: I wouldn't want someone walking up to me and critiquing my methods unless I asked them to, so I am not going to walk up to some random guy and tell him what he's doing wrong.
