i did legs the otehr day and was not sore next day however this morning i woke up to utter soreness what gives??

There is a name for this. DOMs or something? Can't remember, but the same thing happens to me. It didn't when I first started training, but now that's how it always is.
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.
No one has proved why it happens or how, but the common current explanation is due to macrophage activity.

my legs take about 15 hours to feel sore and subsides after about 36 hours.
my exprience - joined gym 10 years ago, 6 1/2 years hard weight training exprience.
Most bodyparts for me usually take 16-24 hours to start feeling really sore.. then the soreness doesnt subside for 48-72 hours.
