Basically, the author says to eat whole food and to train with compounds movements and with free weights. Beware of figure 3.
Sandow rules, except for the whole fig leaf thing. But it was a crazy time, I tells ya!
Of course athletes should NOT train like bodybuilders.

Offensive Lineman should train like an Offensive Lineman.
Baseball players should train like a baseball player.
Hockey player should train like a hockey player.
Powerlifter should train like a powerlifter.
Bodybuilders should train like a fitness model.

Whats the big deal? The imporant points of that article are stressed by the regulars on this forum every day.
-Healthy foods.
-Compound movements.
-Not relying on supplements to make up for lack of diet/training/rest.
The only difference between the way an educated WBBer trains and a bodybuilder from the 50's is that we are scientific in the way we approach training as opposed to mythological.
However now days science is telling us that what they did back in the 50s was better.

However now days broken records in basically every single sport and bodybuilders carrying 50lbs more mass tell us what they did back in the 50s was not better.

"Out of all of the sects in the world, we notice an uncanny coincidence: the overwhelming majority just happen to choose the one that their parents belong to. Not the sect that has the best evidence in its favour, the best miracles, the best moral code, the best cathedral, the best stained glass, the best music: when it comes to choosing from the smorgasbord of available religions, their potential virtues seem to count for nothing, compared to the matter of heredity. This is an unmistakable fact; nobody could seriously deny it. Yet people with full knowledge of the arbitrary nature of this heredity, somehow manage to go on believing in their religion, often with such fanaticism that they are prepared to murder people who follow a different one."

In the 50's training with high frequency and heavy compound movements where common in every gym up to the early 70's. From the mid 70's to the late 90's it was not. Nothing from this era was impressive.. now days similar trianing styles that was done back in the 50's are being done now. Which is high frequency training and heavy compound movements done every week.

I would say that the two main reasons why top modern athletes perform better are nutrition and a much larger pool of participants in athletics.

Good points all around. However doesn't the fact they we now have a greater understanding of nutrition and better drugs mean that training results from the past to present are incomparable?
I'd also like to know what "modern style of training" you are referring to. As far as I know compounds and olympic lifts seem to be the "in" thing for most professional athletes.

From a div. 1 athletic point, we have 6 weeks right now at the end of the season where we're "Body Building" the point is to put on our shield of armour, and gain bulk in the way of LBM.
