I've seen this discussed a few times and derail other threads, especially in the pictures forum. I read a thread last night where a guy who was 145lbs was flamed constantly and told "eat" etc repeatedly. The guy was happy with his weight and very low BF% and needed to stay that way for wrestling. He stated this clearly but something I heard often was, "well if you dont want to get bigger, why are you on a site called 'wannabebig'?"
However, I'd probably argue this because this site deals with losing weight and getting fitter too. My ideal weight will probably be around 170lbs with 8% BF. Not exactly huge but it's how I'd like to look.
What do you think?
I think it's a blend of both "just a name" and an ideal of folks trying to get in solid shape...i.e. bigger muscle-wise.
Like I don't actually think RottenTomatoes.com actually deals in the sales of tomatoes beyond their expiration date.

We all have different fitness goals. The name of the site does not stop the information sharing from being relevant. We are here to support and help each other in attaining our individual fitness goals. We don't all want to be huge nor do we all want to be slim and 'fit'. This is a very tolerant website full of very informative and helpful members. Don't pay attention to the occassional jackass who feels it's their job to belittle others.Originally Posted by Davidelmo

^ That's what I thought but it was pretty senior members doing the flaming and saying, "it's wannabeBIG for a reason" etc
I do find this site helpful and I enjoy asking AND answering questions.
Funny then your sig line...
Looks like you are promoting "eating" and "bigness" too..
LOL
You determine your goals.. always ask questions (after searching)... and then go thru the answers with a fine tooth comb.. the right answer is out, it just make be muddied...
I've been here for a while and there's plenty of info here for everyone... Yes, a lot of members crap on people who post about loosing weight, but that's only because most are fed up with newbies that come on here month after month, year after year and are 150lbs and want to get to be 120 lbs and not be able to even lift their arms but at least have a 6-pack. This is the most non-nonsense BB site out there and if someone comes on here wanting to look like an anorexic model and not lift, they are most likely gonna get crapped on.
I don't think it's just for people that want to be big. Go strole through the journals. Their are plenty of people trying to cut their weight.

It'd be interesting to see what some of the mods have to say about it, IF they even wanted to touch the subject with a ten foot pole.
I personally see the site as a place where people can communicate and research any relevant topic, including losing weight or maintaining a low weight. I DO, however, understand why some more experienced users get annoyed with people who really are small and think they don't want to get bigger. I'd even say the vast majority of people coming to this site to lose weight or maintain a low weight end up eventually deciding to gain a bit of muscle... that's just how it works. Of course I don't think it's necessary to force one's views onto another person, I guess just let them figure it out for themselves.

Often, the people doing such things are trolling. They are not interested at all in constructive discussion, or learning anything about strength or fitness or improving at their given sport.
If they are, they don't make a big deal about NOT wanting to get bigger, nor do they mock those who do.

Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei

I has a blog.
I has a facebook.
Yes, most people that get this told are people who post pics with their first and only posts. Also this is told to alot of twig boys in the anabolic forum with 1 post.
i see this alot, but i feel that most of the time, its guys that want to get stronger and huge, but want to lose weight at the same time.
I don't have time. I make time.
I'm conflicted. I think it's great that people have different fitness goals. I get annoyed when people join and immediately post pictures; I think it's appropriate to tell someone who says they want to gain weight to eat more. I think it's unfortunate when a picture thread turns into a pissing contest, and I was partially responsible for that in the thread in question.
At the end of the day, I think WBB is still a bodybuilding site. I think it's for people who are striving for that particular physique, which is "bigger" than average.
Don't hate the player. Hate the game.
IF you read the name at the top of the internet explorer window it says "Wanna Be Big Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Fourms".
There are several sections such as dieting/nutriton, powerlifting, bodybuilding, supplements, general chat and so forth. If you dont want to be freakishly huge thats up to you, its your body and your choice. Wannabebig is for a broad range of disscussion, not just being "big".
To be quite honest the way that this forum is growing, I wouldn't be surprised if some time in the future the name is changed to be more acceptable for those who don't really wanna be that big. Always a possibility.

What do you mean it's a possibility? Dan's already said that the name change is coming.Originally Posted by fatrb38

I think the name wbb is pretty good.
Lately there have been an influx of 14 year olds that weigh 100lbs and go 'OMG IM SO FAT1!!! OMG LOL I NED 2 CUT1!1!!1! LOL' or "OMG ChEcK OuT My BIzepZZZ!!11onewone'. Nothing is funnier than a twig of a kid posting a picture as his first post asking if he looks good.
That's why some members tell them to eat.

Yeah but I didn't feel like locking him into his own words. If they feel later that they don't want to change it then I wouldn't want everyone to be like "Eh but you said you were gonna change it, etc.". Hopefully that makes sense, I just feel like reserving the right for them to change their minds.Originally Posted by MM

This is a stupid discussion to be having. The site is very tolerant as a whole of people with different goals. No one should be tolerant of 140lb 14 year olds posting 8 bicep shots and repeatedley talking about their "cuts" all the while telling senior members they are genetically stuck at their current weight.
If you have goals and you are actively concerned with changing the way you look, pretty much everyone on this site will support you. If you already think your "cutss l00k way h0ttt!!11", you should probably find somewhere else to post.
Ooh, first I've heard. Any idea what it is going to be?Originally Posted by MM
Yes I admit that particular thread was stupid but then again I dont think the flaming he recieved was terribly necessary. I also think it was a different kid (now banned) who started that whole genetic weight thing.Originally Posted by spencerjrus
As we all seem to agree, everyone has different goals, so I dont see why a 140lb 14yr old kid should be any different. If he's happy with being skinny and just wants a 6 pack I dont mind helping him with a diet to bring down his BF% if that's what he wants.
Obviously this site IS geared towards gaining weight but everyone has differing opinions of what looks good or bad. I think huge bodybuilders look awful and disgusting and my ideal weight is probably only going to be 170lbs- skinny by some standards.
Who wouldn't want to be big????
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

No teenage girl will complain about a six pack.
Some teenage girls will complain about you being a house because you're intimidating to them.
Most of the 'I just want to get cut' crowd are teenagers, it seems like.
