    The highlight of my day

    I recently started at a new gym after moving to NH. It's not a bad place; most of the lifters there are serious about what they do, although we have the usual assortment of curl jockeys and DB kickbackers.

    Today, I was working on deadlifts. Next to me in the other rack was a young, very fine female, in good shape, and strong as hell. While I'm DL'ing 240, she's got at least 1 1/2 times that on her bar, and repping it out with ease.

    I go to grab some water, come back, and here's this dude, 6'2 and skinnier than me (if that's possible), doing his damndest to wile her with his manly charms. He'd been hanging around, using the calf machine, grabbing DBs for curls, and standing around for a bit. All the usual lines..."do you have a trainer?" "you look real good" "i'll bet you can run fast" "do you do marathons?" "come here often?" yada yada yada.

    And then, after small talk, he asks if he can work in. She mentions politely that he might want to strip the bar a little; but no, he-man can do it. The guy gets down, grips the bar, and proceeds to nearly kill himself. Rounded back and all. The bar got to mid-shin before he let it go.

    The excuse I heard was "I've been here for an hour, I should do these at the start." Walked off, and I could tell he was hurtin'. Probably the first deadlift he's ever attempted.

    I love the gym. I get a good workout, and my dose of daily entertainment

    Hah that's great. I love dudes like that. I am lifting in the UK right now and there are a ton of them. They all hit on the girls hardcore and they all lift .5 times their body weight, max. Quite humorous.

    you serious?? a chick repping out ~360 on dl's!?!? most chicks at my gym never tried or probably ever heard of deadlifting. that's some serious weight

    I love seeing dumbasses like that. If you're hitting the gym to impress the girls there, you're just going to end up hurting yourself and looking like a moron. Go and get focused into your workout and when you pause you will notice the girls drooling at you.

    They probably won't be drooling at you if you're lifting properly, because you're probably drooling (and sweaty, and look like you're going to either chuck or pass out).

    Was this woman enormous? Because 300+ on deadlifts is no mean feat, especially for (no offense meant here, ladies) an attractive woman. Hell, I can't even rep 300 ONCE on deadlifts.

    This is where you use his embarassment to your advantage. Once he left you should have thrown out a comment to her making fun of him, it's pretty easy really. I've definitely done it a few times, if a guy crashes and burns then someone might as well use it to his advantage. Plus you said she was attractive...

    lol, same here now that I have recently started working out at home.... Except for the times I look out the window and see the hot babes going down the river.

    Just to clarify: I live on a river (the Suwannee river - google it). Our shed / small barn (where I have all my equipment) is in the back yard on stilts and has a window that looks over the river in it. Its good during my rest periods, especially during the summer.

    Yup, that's right, we all hang around gyms trying to get girls whilst lifting pink 5lbrs, trying to look macho........ us wacky brits...

    Been to quite a few different gyms for years and never witnessed such a thing. Sure, you get the usual stereotypes, but i'll remove myself and the vast majority you just branded from your foolish, imaginative statement.
