_Quick Question,
Do you guys get this a lot when asking for jobs? I have been looking for many jobs and people are rejecting me left and right for having too high of GPA and to much experience. The catch is I haven't even graduated college yet and I'm only 20. Supposedly I'm still qualified too work at places. Luckily I have gotten a summer job at an army research facility so I'm not to worried about employment. I just find it odd that people would not want me working for them for this reason. I have literally been rejected by 3-4 places where they told me this, and other places might have rejected me for this without telling me. I can understand how you might be worried that a more intelligent person can get bored with the work and quit, but a dumber person might do that too. Also, if a smart person is bored why not just give them harder work?
I'm a little annoyed because right now guys who I have literally tutored through school are getting interviews left and right for high paying internships while I'm getting snuffed. The government job is paying me much less than industry internships.

Sounds like the whole "your too nice" excuse from women. I've been job interviewing left and right since I graduate in 6 weeks. Sitting at the airport now about to fly to Utah for another interview. If they are telling you that there is probably a different reason they don't like you. I have a 3.3 GPA and have no issues, and my friend has a 3.9 and has about 10 job offers. I also know someone with a 4.0 that can't get anything.

You're probably a dick, and they're "too nice" to tell you.
What kind of jobs are they? Some jobs won't hire you because they know you won't be there long and don't want to waste time and resources on training you.

Depending on the field, the superiors hiring you may not want the competition from you. If you're really that smart, ambitious, young, and cheap, they are likely afraid that they won't have jobs for long if they hire you.

i get this sometimes in the it field. Trying to get hired on Helpdesks. I have been told a few times that i had to much experience. THen they turn around and hire someone with NO EXPERIENCE. which to me is retarted
This is most likely the reason. At a company I worked at a long time ago, I was in charge of hiring web designers. I was instructed in not so many words by the Art Director to not hire anyone remotely close in talent to him. I kind of laughed, but he was serious. Well I could understand if I interviewed and I failed. But they just see my GPA and work experience and they immediately kick me out. This has happened to me multiple times. Its funny because they don't even bother trying to hide it. It wouldn't be so bad if in the end it didn't effect my pay but I'm making about $5-$6 dollars less than people who are much dumber and lazier than me.

Maybe you should aim for better jobs if this is really happening to you on a consistent basis.

Smart or not, if you dont have a personality or people skills (depending on the job) not many places will hire you.
My sig scared getfit.
Having come off a 7 month long unemployment stint... I can completely relate. I was stuck with either not enough work experience, or being overqualified..."we don't need a PhD to do this for us". Bottom line, I didn't have the experience I needed to do the kind of job I wanted, or they didn't want to pay the kind of salary I was worth when someone with a lesser degree could do the same job for 20-30K less. Ultimately it worked out in the end and I ended up with a company that was looking for precisely the experience and education I have. Best of luck to you.

Boooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Same thing happened to me. I got that quite a few times when applying for work after I got laid off. One guy simply told me that he was worried that because of my work experience he didn't want to take the time to train me just to have me jump ship when something better came along. At least the guy was honest with me and I can understand where he's coming from.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Considering what its doing to my pay I'm debating whether I should wreck my GPA down to around a 3.5. Hopefully if i feign stupidity during my interviews and bring down my GPA I can get into one of those nice high paying jobs.

Keep spewing out stupidity like that and you won't have to feign anything.

Maybe I should have done something to indicate sarcasm in my last post. Anyway with the government military job I was looking at your pay actually scales based on GPA which is REALLY nice. The main point of my post was I think its kinda funny how getting BETTER grades can in certain situations screw you over.

i have a hard time believing u are TOO smart especially when you can't even spell "too" in "you're to smart" right
I think you may be interviewing at wrong places. I have rejected a few applicants in the past because they were too smart for us. They were computer geeks with a lot of experience in game design and system level programming; we are just an IT/design/marketing consulting firm.
And yes, theres always an element of insecurity. When I approve a candidate, I make sure that he is just right for 'that' job and doesnt pose any competition to me.
I guess you should be happy to have that problem. Not everyone has the GPA you do.
That happend to me one time, but I think the boss was only afraid that I was going to play with his wife.
A big thanks to all my friends in the USA, I am deeply grateful for your hospitality and kindness.
