    Rugby Fitness Testing Goals

This comes straight from the Team Canada Rugby Website

    http://www.rugbycanada.ca/content_fi..._Dev_Model.pdf

    For the Tight Five:

    Age: 22+
    Height: Front Row - 5'10"-6'3" Lock - 6'4"-6'10"
    Weight: Front Row - 230+ Lock - 225+
    Shape: Large, Bulky

    35m sprint: Front Row - <5.1s Lock - <5.0s
    3RM Bench Press: Front Row - 315+ Lock - 275+
    Triple Jump: Front Row - 6+m Lock - 7+m

    For Back Row Forwards:

    Age: 20+
    Height: Flanker - 5'11"-6'6" 8-Man - 6'3"-6'8"
    Weight: Flanker - 210+ 8-Man - 220+
    Shape: Large, Bulky, Muscular

    35m Sprint: <4.9s
    3RM Bench Press: 275+
    Triple Jump: 7.5+m

    For Inside Backs:

    Age: 18+
    Height: 5'8"-6'4"
    Weight: 190+
    Shape: Lean, Muscular

    35m Sprint: <4.8s
    3RM Bench Press: 185-230
    Triple Jump 8+m

Outside Backs have the same numbers as inside backs except they are supposed to run sub 4.7s sprints and jump 8.5+m triple jumps.

They also mention 20m multistage shuttle scores which I believe is a fancy way of saying "the beep test".

    Front Row - 11.5+
    Lock - 12.0+
    Back Row - 13.5 +
    Backs: 14.0+

Anyhow according to this I need to take half a second off my sprint, add 90 pounds to my bench and improve my beep test from a 10 to a 12...Ugh!

I remember seeing something like this for Canadian bobsled teams and the requirements were pretty crazy. You gotta be in shape to play at that level!!

I lived with an Olympic bobsledder when I was at university in Montreal. He was HUGE.
