    Deadlift PR

Today was my first workout for two weeks +. I had been on vacation/road trip. I got some leg work in just hiking and some full body stuff rock climbing, but I decided to enjoy the trip and I didn't lift just to lift.

So I did deadlift today, started slow. Decided I was gonna do 5 sets of 1 rep. Well I used to max at 235 and I had a real hard time holding on to that gripwise.

Well I guess the break did well because today I loaded all the weight I own at home on my bar and lifted it for 3 sets of 1 rep at 250 lbs. I had my friend check my form and he said they were all legit reps.

    I am quite happy!

Edit- I realize to most this is baby stuff- but it's 100 lbs over my weight, which i dig.

Congrats! It seems like your CNS needed some recharging. If you see a decline when you start working out regularly maybe you should switch to doing deads every two weeks.

Don't ever think this is baby stuff.. there are plenty of folks doing more.. and plenty of folks doing less.. there always will be, unless you are one of the gifted ones..

But 100 lbs over BW is awesome.. and you are only 18.. so you have a lot of time to improve.. if you so choose..

Good luck.. and taking breaks is normal.. and for 99.99% of everyone is nessecary.. it does a body good.. especially when that is an active break like hiking and rock climbing..

I echo Bearwolf's sentiments. Well done TMM. That's the motivation that keeps us going.

    Congrats on the PR!

Everyone needs a break every so often to recharge. The beauty of it is, you usually come back stronger. Keep up the good work.

    Awesome work on the PR!

Just remember, when you walk into any room anywhere, you probably can deadlift more than almost anyone there. And trust me, as long as you have it in your mind that you can do more, you will. I remember the first time I pulled 250 and it was an awesome feeling. That feeling never changes. Just keep killin it man.

250 is a nice DL. My max is 300 but of course apparently i'm heavier then you by 60 LBs. And 250 is a great lift for someone that weighs 150.

Well thanks guys. I really felt good after doing it. It means my grip strength has improved dramatically.

I really expected everything to go downhill this summer because I took 3+ weeks of vacation time. 8 days in Norway and two weeks in Colorado with two weeks in between the trips in which i had to recover from one and get ready for another so there was at least 4 weeks or so that I hardly lifted or didn't lift at all.

Looks like it did me well- at least for back anyway. Tomorrow is leg day.

My deadlift has been consistently rising for the past 4 or 5 months. I started at 135 and stayed there for a long time, but it has gotten better in the past few months, so that really keeps me motivated.

    Thanks.

I second that. I do deadlifts every other week, and I am seeing great gains.
