I used to get them terribly. Podiatriasts can "kill" the nail at the root (essentially at the nail bed). I had this done to both of my big toes about 10 years ago. I haven't had an ingrown nail since.Originally Posted by McVein

I never had surgery, but infection was an issue and I had to take antibiotics. I just suffered through it. I wish I could give you some new advice, but if you've already tried trimming the nail, various home remedies, and surgery, then you're probably just going to have to either suffer through it the best you can or go to the doc again.
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

anyways, I had the same problem from 6th grade to the summer before 9th grade, I know how badly that crap can hurt. I had it on BOTH big toes, growing inward in BOTH directions of the toe as well. I eventually had to get both toenails cut off and I haven't had a problem with it since. Yet if it grew back for you, you might want to get the whole nail taken out.
just thinking about it makes my toes hurt, gl to ya
