Okay. Here goes:
1. Currently I have a curl bar with the 1 inch diameter and a few 1 inch plates. It's got the screw thing on the end and it constantly comes loose. Very easily.
2. I'd like to get some home dumbbells. I am looking for some of the adjustable ones so I can add plates and not have to buy separate dumbbells. Where can I find the type that has a collar on the ends and not the screws, because I don't want the screws coming off like they do on my curl bar and they are a hassle to take off and put back on.
Also, if I were to get adjustable dumbbells I assume they have the 1 inch plates and 1 inch diameter on the ends. Since I would then have dumbbells and a curl bar with 1 inch stuff, would it then be wise to get a 1 inch barbell? Because I am weak and wouldn't need a 300 lb Olympic weight set for years. I've seen like 100 lb standard barbell sets that are 1 inch, so should I stick with those? Or can you get a standard (1 inch) bar that can hold more than 100 lbs, like say up to 200?
anybody...?
I don't know much about this stuff.
It won't take you years to grow into a 300lbs set, that's for sure. As for adjustable dumbbells, I'd go with an adjustable olympic dumbbell ... something like this:

Get a $100 olympic weight set. It's the best bargain.
Then you can get DB handles and some extra weights.

100 DB set I could forseen a serious lifter using a 100 DB within 7 months of serious lifting if your doing rows with them. As for 300 LB olympic set that should last you. If your doing DLs it'll last you a few months then you can buy more plates.
Going from 100 LBs to 190 LBs isn't as hard as going from 300LBs to 390 Lbs on DLs.

"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."
So even if I'd rather buy a 100 lb barbell set for $40 because I am pretty weak now you figure I should look around all my stores in my city for a $100 300lb olympic barbell set because it'll last me longer?
Also, will the 100lb set with the crappy black bar, can the bar even hold more than 100 lbs? If so, I could just buy more weights right?
As for the dumbbell handles, how bout some standard size screw-on ones. I can't afford 80 bucks for a set of 2 dumbbell handles like someone posted or something like that.
Absolutely go with 300lbs. You'll outgrow 100lbs within a month or two, if not within weeks.
The dumbbell handles were just a suggestion of what to look for. You can find cheaper ones, look around.

Also, is the olympic sized (2 inch) stuff stronger than the standard 1 inch stuff?
Since I won't be lifting very much (nowhere 50 lbs for a while) on dumbbells and I planned on getting the dumbbell handles, is there anything wrong with getting cheap 1 inch screw-on handles?
