First off the defination of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
Second off this can be a solution for music, video, movie, esp tv priacy isseus software can be a lot more difficult.
Ok it seems that anti-priacy orgs are always several steps behind the priates themsevles when they were shutting down napster, kazaa was shooting up, well they were shutting down kazaa limewire was popping up etc. When they go after limewire BTs are popular and EVEN BETTER! In todays age is so easy to get any movie, or any TV show you want. However theres a solution which works great for both camps.
Embrace it, yes I said embrace the record companys, recording studios, TV stations EMBRACE IT! What makes you cash addvertisement. Lets say you get 1,000,000 poeple watching a TV show every day, however lets say their are a extra 1 mill that would watch it but can't or somthing. Well offer it for download FOR FREE! servers would be fairly cheap, technology is already here. Use bittorrents you can make money off of advertistements you can insert a tracker into the file it self so every time its viewed your advertisers get a notice and pay so much to you per view. Granted you may make 1/2 as much but your selling to twice as many. Music could do the same thing, in fact one music site has popped up, they intend on making ALL THEIR MONEY from advertisements well making dling music 100% utterly legal.
Your making less per unit, but selling more. I don't know many poeple that would DL somthing illegally when they could just easly dl the same thing legally for the same price

They wont embrace it, and if they could make mass prosecution cost effective they would be throwing fines and lawsuites and all this other mumbo jumbo out like confetti.
This is the only reason why you never hear of any John Q Public's getting sued anymore... they do it for a while to scare people and then hope that enough fear is out there to deter most of the people.
Seriously, how far ahead is a company going to be by spending $100,000 to sue 100 people who each pirated a $80 software program. The entire process would end up costing them atleast $92,000....
Its not effective unless your dealing with a program like photoshop which retails at closer to $1000.
They know what your doing, theirs nothing they can practically do about it.
Priates are cool.

It AMAZES me that any artist can actually still sell anywhere close to a million albums. Who the hell actually buys cds now?

Alot of people buy cd's. More people are afraid of being sued or find it morally wrong then you would invision.
You ask who buys CDs and it amazes you that artists sell a million albums still.Originally Posted by HahnB

Yes, because I'm wondering who are these people that are buying the cds. I don't know anyone who has boughten a cd in 6 or 7 years. I guess there's a sucker born every minute.Originally Posted by sCaRz*Of*PaiN

I buy a cd if it's good enough to be bought. I'll download the songs first and if there are enough goods songs that i feel it's worth the 10-20$ then i'll buy it.

It's debatable whether it's "morally wrong". It's irrelevant to me, though. I'll sleep better with the 15 bucks in my pocket.

If you don't download in this day and age - it leads me to believe you don't know how.

How did you come to that conclusion?

I download music, I also buy albums for particular artists I want to support.

In this day and age if you dont download your smart. Its only a matter of time before they get rid of all this you cant search my computer or monitor what I do on my computer crap and then they will come along sueing at will.
All they have to do is make a wave, sue two million people and be done with it. Honestly how much music is out there that you acutally like which you cannot afford. Movies are 2.99 for the rental and if your desperate for your money then you have DVD decrypter.
They can sue whomever they want, that doesn't mean they will win. You can sue someone for anything. If I want to download a old song I'm not going to go spend 15 dollars on an album that came out 10 years ago just to hear it. I don't keep songs on my computer anyways. The chances of me being sued, them winning, and me actually paying them are slim to none.Originally Posted by WBBIRL

I bought it at Walmart for all that it matters to YOU.
Choosing not to download an MP3 is your choice, but you're not saving any lives or reserving a spot in heaven by doing so.
Again it's a personal decision.
I've paid $15 for so many CD's filled with 1 -2 good songs and the rest filler that I think the industry owes me a few songs.

I'm not clear on what the word "boughten" means, but I'll assume it's a sign that you not only intentionally avoid paying for music, but you avoid education as well.Originally Posted by HahnB
EVERYONE buys CDs. EVERYONE. People buy CDs, and then they play them, or transfer them onto their MP3 players. Unless you live in Russia or North Dakota, you already know this.
Haven't you noticed the 1/4th of the square footage at Best Buy, Circuit City, or Wal Mart that is dedicated to the purchase of CDs???

Even when people fully convert to downloading music digitally, they won't be stealing it.

I read somewhere that users would have to download 5000 copies of one song to impact the sales of one physical CD...and studies have shown MP3 use doesn't impact overall sales.
Eminem's 'The Eminem Show' was leaked weeks before release and it actually ended up helping sales of the CD.
