Log Wrestling: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wdd_vlSDU_8
I always enjoyed seeing the one-on-one duels like these in arm wrestling, sumo, etc... I understand why they probably got rid of them (injury), but they are pretty cool anyway.
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

steel bending, quarter bending, highland game style events were also very cool to watch. there is a lot of events they dont do anymore that you can find videos of kaz or others doing from the 80s
Cool.
Is that a garbage bag on the first losing guys head?
Face it: biceps are the muscle that classifies you as a muscle man.
HilarityStriding across the fields, carrying a vorpal blade, cometh Clawhammer! And he gives a bloodthirsty bellow:
"As sure as predators devour prey, I shall paint the town a sanguine shade of doom!!!"
those events are so crazy, how ever i think magnus broke some1's arm arm wrestling so i dont think thats safe either LOL
2000 or bust
That's crazy!!
I'd love to see someone bend a quarter. That would require some insane finger strength.Originally Posted by Maximus96
"Quarter bending"? I can't imagine that would be much of a spectator event... Bar bending is pretty fun to watch and I actually remember seeing Lou Ferrigno doing it in one of the early WSMs in the 70s.Originally Posted by Maximus96

I think that they should bring back events like arm wrestling, they are the most entertaining to watch

So, who is this monster? Manfred Hoeberl is the man with the World's Biggest Arms - 25 1/2 inches cold!! To put things into perspective, Arnold had 22 inch arms in his prime. Manfred is truly a giant, measuring 6' 5" and weighing in at 330 lbs. This guy is strong - really strong... He does chin-ups with 200 lbs. strapped to his waist for reps! He can curl 440 lbs. for reps!
You might have seen him compete in the World's Strongest Man Competition, shown regularly on ESPN. Manfred was just starting to climb to the top of the sport (finished 2nd in 1994) when he was in a serious car accident in 1995. He's recovered and he'll be back... so look out!

Im with you Sensei. The Log Wrestling was awesome, and did actually show who was the stronger person. Thats what WSM should have more of. one on ones. That truley shows the Worlds Strongest Men!

There is skill in all strength activities. And theres a lot of strength needed in those log battles. I concur that having good footing and staying low has its advantages but that is also displaying strength.
