    For the Biology Nerds

Today in my Cell Biology class the professor showed us this comupter-generated video (complete with some cool music) of some of the processes that go on in a cell, claiming that he could use it for a final test by making us write everything we know about the processes in the video and anyone that left after 4 hours would fail because they couldn't have written enough.

Obviously he wasn't serious, but it sure is a cool video. Enjoy!

That was really cool. I guess the poor guy was having an infection, since that WBC was transmigrating toward the end.

I bet Rene will love this.

Yep, I flipped. LOL. This animation was absolutely insane and had some pretty novel visual representations for certain processes. There were over a dozen things that you could write for an hour on each alone. The only problem you'll have writing for 4 hours is having your hand cramp up.

about 8 years ago Howard Hughes Institute also comissioned (the same animation studio, I think) to show type 3 secretion for a Canadian Microbiologist named Brett Finlay. At the time this came out I remember thinking the animation was pretty awesome, but now it looks dated. It's still pretty cool:

Yeah, every cell biologist went nuts when this was released.
