    New Gym

I joined my local Fitness First today and discovered my first commercial gym. **** it sucks. A bleeding huge cardio theatre and a free weights room the size of my house's lounge room. What the ****.

Plus they don't have anywhere to do deadlifts or cleans. They've got 1 squat rack, 1 bench and about a million machines which look as complicated as a freaking jet engine. I mean they've got more leg press machines than squat racks.

What the ****s. I miss my school gym so much. Makes us 16 year olds seem so much more hardcore.

Cuase tose are the gyms that make the most money. All the old people don't want to lift but have the most cash to spend.

My gym has similar problems. But I'm on a family contract with my parents, so I can't go anywhere else. The worst is that they replaced all the weights recently. Now all the plates have got rubber on them, and the dumbell grips are plastic. Oh, and they don't have a single olympic bar. They have a bar that weighs 17kg. Like wtf, that's such a random number.

They also got new fancy machines. It looks like the gym on the starship enterprise or something. Because, obviously, the more complicated the machines the better they are for you, as one of the "biokineticists" will no doubt tell me.

My gym is about the same, one ****ty rack and a couple of ****ty benches. Although they do have a place for deads. There is a room full of machines that look like torture devices. Scares me everytime I go in it.

My gym has no place to do deads... but I do them anyways. I get all kinds of glares when putting down a heavy single but nobody's said anything yet.

    Nothing else better anywhere nearby.

I go to my community centre gym. It rocks!

Theres 2 squat racks, 6 benches, 1 decline, 1 incline, and than tons of other benches in the dumbell section. There are still quite a few machines, but I dont go near them really.

There arent really any areas for deadlifts, but I make room. People do give me looks though. Apparently not many people can deadlift 175 pounds :S

I go to the YMCA by me which was recently rennovated. It's massive and has everything imaginable.

I'm also curious why you would sign up for a gym that obviously would of been terrible by looking through the window... do you have a trial period to cancel? If so, find a hole in the wall gym or something.

That's pretty cool that they named your gym after Jesus. If Jesus was cool, though, he wouldn't lift at such a crappy sounding place...unless he knew something we don't.

my schools gym just got renovated with a huge federal grant and they did a great job on the weight rooms (theres two)..... BUT they also wasted a ton of money on completly worthless **** like 5 different bicep machines, a ping pong room, and now they are putting in a TanCo and massage/spa type deal. Keep in mind, this is your university gym, but they are trying to turn it into a health club. I am thinking about joining the local gold's down the street just because I am not liking this place, but the fact that it is free keeps me there.

I don't think it's free. You are probably paying for it in your student fees. Check how much you're paying. You can usually get refunded and it may be cheaper and better to go elsewhere.

My gym is also a university gym.
They have something called "The annex room" and its filled with cardio machines. Living in residence, I automatically get the weight room but not the annex room. I have a very strong feeling that the person in charge there is a hardcore weightlifter. Only we would think of seperating the cardio room and weight room, and making anyone who needs the cardio room pay extra

O, I forgot... theres this ancient bike in the corner of the weightroom. Its only purpose is for warmups. I cant imagine a person using for 30 min.

Because it was the only thing close to me that I could use during the summer holidays? It was either that or stop lifting.

There's only one Golds Gym in Australia and its in Sydney.

yeah its not "free", i pay for it through the student fees, but if I went somewhere else I'd be paying twice and it would be too much of a hassle to try to get them to stop charging me for it. Its also convenient because I can walk there, but next year Im living off campus and I will probably join somewhere closer to where Im living.

hah, I'm working on a business plan for investors on a new gym, something of a 3 sectional, one with cardio and typical commercial set up then a hardcore section with multiple power racks, benches, dbs that go passed 130, and kettleballs, and various other things. then the 3rd section is a boxing/mma training with bags, roll mats, and a full size ring because I'm tired of the crap in gyms as well.
