    New TV time...

I bought a new TV tonight.

I'm a total Samsung whore, so I got one of these and one of these to go with it. Best Buy is having 36 months no interest on home theater purchases over $999 with approved credit.

With HDMI cable and service plans, it totalled just over $1500. I'll have it paid off in 9 months or so. Movies and video games pwn on this thing...and I can't wait to get another cable to hook up my PC. Drastic improvement over the 19" GE I had for the last 6 years.

    w00t!

Does your cable provider have an HD cable box you can get? I had to trade mine in when I got my HD TV.

    What videogame system ya using?

you should return your hdmi cable to best buy and go get it at Radio Shak. Save yourself about $100. I'm not kidding.

Honestly...I don't even watch TV. I got it because I'm a huge movie and video game geek. An added benefit was that the unit I got has a PC input...so once I get an extra cable (or find one of the ones I have around here...) I'll be in gek heaven.

For consoles, I use Gamecube, PS2, and, to kick it old school, the SNES.

I went ahead and got it because it was included in the total purchase, so I didn't have to lay out any cash immediately. Not that big a deal, really.

Nice TV, I wanted this 1080p 37" flat LCD for my PS3 but I quit my gravy train job that paid well for around here. I'd have never left the freaken house, not that I do now but you get me.

I'm interested in that up converting DVD player. I'd be interested to see what a dvd looked like when up converted to 720p. Then I'd want to see what a movie looked like that had been run through DVD shrink.

For all future references, any digital cable (HDMI included) can be purchased as cheaply as possible. Its a digital signial, if it were analogue then you'd be better off spending top dollar on a monster cable or something.

If it's less than 50", you shouldn't even bother with a 1080p TV because you can barely tell the difference between that and 720p with the smaller screen size. The difference is VERY noticeable when you start going with the huge TVs. At least that's what I've noticed.

No but its a 37" 1080p flat LCD which accepts 1080p and doesn't just deinterlace 1080i. That and it could be had as cheaply as $1400 when I was looking at it 6-8 months ago, it may be cheaper now.

Interesting you say this. I'm watching a DVD+R copy of Grandma's Boy right now. It's got its glitches, but generally, it looks great. The whole setup needs tweaked a bit, but I'm really happy with it. Glad I waited and thought about it all before pulling the trigger.

Yea, if heavy compression is used (and you don't use the deep analysis + the other encoding enhancer) people were saying that it didn't look that great on an HD set.

Do you notice a difference when your 480p dvd's are upconverted to 720p?

Be wary of that HDMI, it's DRM-infested.

I watched a HDTV a few weeks ago, I think it's only really worth it if you sit really close to it, or have really good eyesight, otherwise it just looks like normal TV.

They claim that for a normal TV you can select a screen size by multiplying the screen size in inches by 3 for every foot away from it you view and then they claim 5-7 x for every foot away you view it from. I'd stick to 5 personally.

I definitely notice a difference with the upconversion. It looks a lot sharper than the standard 480p, but is obviously not true HD. Either way, I dig it.

I don't know anyone that's had problems with DRM problems while using HDMI. It's not something I'm real worried about.

Components capable of 1080p, but HDMI shouldn't be the limiting factor... there should be more pieces to that puzzle.
