Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone!

Any classic rockers in the house?

I am a big fan of Hendrix, Aerosmith, and of course, the Floyd!

Im in a Pink Floyd cover band (concert is coming up soon) and people ask me what kind of music Pink Floyd is, and I dont know how to describe it! Its rock, but not really rock, its not pop... Can someone help me with a description of Floyd?

A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

Kind of like hard-rock jazz. Wikipedia the terms - I'm sure they'd have decent definitions for them.

Classic rock is probably my favorite genre right now. I like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I guess SRV might be more blues and less classic rock, but he covered some of Jimi Hendrix's songs, so I'll list him anyway.

    Pink Floyd = experimental/psychedelic rock.

I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan.

I love the Syd Barrett led era but Gilmour is moving.

Anything but country and bluegrass. Zeppelin, Floyd, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Beatles, Eagles, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, old metallica, Nirvana, Joe Satriani, Robert Johnson, Charlie Parker, Al mingus, Steve Vai (especially Crossroads music..*drool*), System of a Down and Korn are probably my favorite modern bands..idk i can't think of anything else

As far as classical music..all Chopin music, but especially his posthumous Nocturnes, Ballade no's 1 & 2, Grande Valse Brilliante, his A minor Polonaise; Beethoven's moonlight sonata (mvt. 2 & 3, 1 is overplayed and i hate it.) and his piano concertos, Brahms' rhapsodies, Gershwin's preludes and Rhapsody in Blue of course. I don't remember what else i've learned to play on the piano..if i can remember anything else i'll put it down.

Also..all jazz i love. Especially Big bad voodoo daddy..amazing stuff lol

    There are oh so many!

I'd have to say my top three bands/artists would be Floyd, Neil Young and the Dead.

    Judas ****ing Priest yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

What Pink Floyd sounds like? There are the psychedelic songs, the kind you listen to while watching 2001: A Space Odyssey. Then there are the songs like Money, then those like High Hopes, then those like Another Brick on the Wall. I'll have to listen to their stuff more closely one day. Their sound sure confuses me.

I'm a huge Zep fan, but I also love Floyd, old Aerosmith, Steve Miller, Doors, Steppenwolf, Hendrix, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, plus old metal pioneers like Sabbath, Deep Purple, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, etc.

How to describe Floyd? Psychedelic rock/jam band is the closest I could come up with. The only other thing I'd say is to just play some for people, then they'll know.

You could say I'm a little old for my age.

Beatles, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Genesis, Joan Baez, Sopwith Camel, John Lennon, Derek and the Dominos, Wings, Bread, Cream, Steve Miller Band, Fleetwood Mac, Allman Brothers, Queen, Steppenwolf (I got to see him perform live FREE in the streets of Reno a few years ago - AWESOME!), Moody Blues, the Doors, Joan Osbourne, Bob Dylan, Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, some Stones..... I think you get the idea.

It is a line from Pink Floyd - "Have a Cigar".

When they started out, agents always assumed that there was someone in the band named "Pink Floyd", not knowing where the name came from.

Gotcha. For some reason I thought it was a nickname for Syd, but I guess 'Syd' is a nickname itself.
