ok so i got all my computer parts yesterday and my friend and i put it together today. we hooked it up and the disc drive wont take the Windows XP disc
i mean it will take it but wont read it, my friend thinks its my hard drive and my computer is at his house and he is working on it since he cant get it and i had to leave. the hard drive is hooked up but he says it is very different from what he had but he knew how to hook it up. we checked all the BIOS settings and everything it just wont read the disc anyone have any suggestions
thnks
Make sure its jumpered correctly as the primary master driver and is on the primary channel. Then in the bios give boot priority to the cd/dvd drvie and insert the XP disk. Restart the PC and it should work without a hitch.
Just for kicks make sure the hard drive is on the primary channel of which ever IDE controller its on. If its SATA (sorta an L shaped connector) plug it into the first sata port on the PC.
If none of that works, try a different CD/DVD drive.
we think we are able to fix it. the master and slave got mixed up but one friend says thats like the dumbed down version of what happened. its a little more complicated but we think we r able to fix it
thnks
If that doesn't work, try downloading the drivers for the CD drive onto a floppy disc using another computer, and load those before you try to use the CD drive - I had the same problem once. I think that's what it was, but I can't remember exactly.
that wont work, i would have to get a new drive cause its a new computer that i havent even used and neither of the drives will work. thnks for the advice though
my friends is fixing it as we speak though
