A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

No limitations on supportive equipment - my guess is that if you are doing more than a few, equipment would just make it harder to breathe though.

Stance is up to you, but the parallel rule is iron-clad.

Prize hasn't been decided yet. Bearwolf and I put up tubs of Nitrean last time but money's going to be tight around my house for a while.

The closest I'm going to be able to get to competing in this is to point out the saying goes "With your shield or on it."

    So there.

    Changed.

And I am so doing this this weekend, especially since a hamstring tear has prevented me from squatting over 500 for months.

Glad to see there is another squat competition. I never got a chance to compete in the other one because I waited too long. This one I'll definitely do before the deadline. Not that I'll win, not even close, but it's cool to see how many. Even if it is only a few.

Man. I'm so totally trying this tonight. I'm thinking 10 reps minimum. I'm hoping by August 31st I'll be good for 15-20. Belial is going to kill us, though.

You don't have to rerack it.

All right fellas, nothing special but I figured since I started the contest, I wanted to kick it off - 315 x 6:
