My friend just sent me a watch. He lives in the US, I live in Canada. It cost him $33 w/ insurance via USPS airmail to send it.
$33!!!
Since when did it cost so much to send something so small?
I've been noticing this trend on ebay items as well. People asking $20+ shipping on a tshirt or DVD. It's getting to the point where I can just buy locally, and even if it cost a little more, at least I don't have to wait two weeks to get the package.
Is USPS the cheapest service out there? What are FedEX and UPS charging?
On ebay, I use the total price (bid + shipping) to calculate how much to bid. If they want to overcharge on shipping, then I'll just deduct that from my bid.
Try importing goods from the US to Europe. My gf has started her own small wool shop, and is paying about $70 per order placed at her sources. $70 on top of $300-500... And it's not like she then gets it overnight or insured.
