I live in Mass and we get the Red Sox on NESN on regular cable. I know on directv when the game comes on NESN the screen goes black. To watch the Red Sox, I would have to buy a whole baseball package which I bet is a crazy price. I know they have more HD channels on directv, but I'm not missing the SOX and CELTICS.

It's about 2 times as expensive as Time Warner and you get a lot less channels so I'm stuck with Time Warner.

When I move in July, I am getting DirecTV.

Why you ask?For the NFL package. I have to watch my Dallas Cowboys play every week.

Around late summer they have deals if you buy the nfl ticket, you get total choice programming free for some months.

I also need the NFL network, and most cable suppliers put that on an upper tier package.

Plus if your wife/gf is a Passions fan, its moving to directv only this september.

Um, nah, just because the cable around her is insane. To get any decent channels you have to pay $65, plus rent a box, and there are extra charges for HBO, HD, etc. It ends up being close to 100 dollars just to have freaking cable.

DirecTV just "seems" like a better deal. I wanted to know if some posters here actually have it so they can tell me the real deal. Those advertising guys are good and they always promise you one thing and you get another.

    Just wanted the DL.

With Time Warner I was getting all the regular cable stations (150 channels or so), 11 HBO channels, HBO on demand, A HD cable box with DVR included (tivo), another regular cable box for my room, and Road Runner high speed internet, all for $79.99.

Around here Time Warner owns Direct Tv. Direct tv is ridiculously more expensive for the same amount of features.

We have comcast, I wonder if I could get an HD box for my TV?

My grandmother has DirecTV and I hate it, it does have the NFL package which im not paying for but 95% of the rest of the channels are garbage. Even the premium ones suck... they just replay all the same movies over and over for a month and then change it to a new set to replay to death.

Had DirecTV for one winter. On bad rain or windy days I couldn't watch TV for more than 10 minutes without it messing up. About half of the people I talked to(friends, family, coworkers) all experienced the same problem. Don't know why this would only screw up certain people and not all, but I will never get it again.

I've had it since April. Got the MLB package so I can see Astros games up here. No problems with reception yet.

Ever think of getting a FTA box with autoroll?

edit: just a thought... I have cable, but I know a few people that use FTA boxes to get dish via nimiq and bev. Could be a hassle with setup and maintenance though... learning curve and whatnot.

I used to have Direct TV and rainy days were ****. Then I switched to Time Warner, but after a while I switched back to Direct TV and it actually showed the channels on stormy days. Not sure if they fixed it or what.

If the box says 8PSK compatible, it should. Otherwise I know that DVB cards for the PC will pick up HDTV in software mode, as long as your video card has HDTV out and you have a decent computer.

I have had both time warner (aka comcast now) and direct TV. All I have to say is if you plan on going for DVR get direct TV, time warner makes the worst box I have ever seen.... ever. I will never go back. DIrect TV has way better options as well, stated in previous posts.
I am SO glad I'm female.
Seriously - I had NO IDEA it was this complicated.
I just tell my husband he makes love like a God, feed him a steak, and I'm done for the day. Super easy.

What options does the direct tv dvr have that time warner didn't?

you don't have HD through comcast in your area? i've got comcast with a couple of HD DVR boxes. pretty decent selection of HD channels and on demand. i thought they offered the same thing everywhere.

Hey RBB whats the priceing on the HD service? Or is it just getting an HD box or renting an HD DVR box or something like that?

I hope its not that much since I have the only HDTV in the house and I'd more then likely have to foot the extra money twoards the bill.

Just asking incase you know it off the top of your head, if not on monday I'm going to call comcast.

Um well im talking about operations, like fast forward etc. It's soo much easier on DTV than time warner. The OS they use is the worst I have ever seen.

I've had DirectTV since January and have only lost reception one or two times for more than a few minutes. Both times were in very bad snowstorms. I used to have much bigger problems with Time Warner when I had it. Some channels suck, but it's the same with Time Warner. The only complaint I have is that Mets games get blacked out (Yankees too, but I don't care about that). Other than that, I like DirectTV much more than Time Warner. Anytime one of my friends have needed work done, they were there the next day. Time Warner couldn't turn my cable on for three weeks when I moved. That was enough for me to switch.
