Building a Monster Upper Back

A huge and thick upper back is the hallmark of the alpha strength athlete. Only those with the fortitude and will to train with the requisite intensity will achieve the kind of upper back that literally intimidates and inspires awe in all who see it.

If you truly want the biggest and strongest back possible, it is necessary to combine the best of both the powerlifting and bodybuilding worlds!

Pretty much powerlifter despite never going to a meet or lifting equipped, though I care what I look like to a decent extent. I just don't see the point in looking big without being strong.

Simply to stay strong and healthy as I get older, and not end up with a fat beer belly and gasping for my breath after walking up a flight of stairs!

Im just a lifter which likes to combine principles from powerlifting and bodybuilding. I might compete at one point in powerlifting, however at the moment i still have a long way to go.

I am not a particular style but I am just a weight lifter. I have the primary goal of a body builder to get muscular, but I have no drive or desire to get cut or compete. I just want to get BIG. Id like to loose a few pounds, but not to the extent of a boy builder by any means.

Mine is not recreational, I have a system and a routine, and I pray to the gods of pain regularly. So Im not into competing, and its not a recreation. I am simply, a weight lifter.

Strongman... There are a handful who visit this site fairly regularly, not sure if they would see the poll though.

Previously trained for looks, but since I did not compete then I guess you would call me a former recreational lifter (gym rat).

Olympic weightlifter with a bench press fetish. Maybe if i hadn't reached the point i did it would have been easier to give up benching when i started weightlifting, but i got pretty far and didn't want to (still dont want to) stop. And now the two combined have built a pretty good physique... (benching nicely brings up the only weaknesses in a weightlifters physique) which makes me wonder if i can look like a competitive bodybuilder while being a bench-pressing olympic weightlifter...

Strong Girl events? hahaha, doubt it. Girl's don't have strength, right?
I know a couple of girls who have competed in "Strong Woman" shows.

My main focus is probably bodybuilding, though I follow a strength-oriented routine as opposed to a bodybuilding one. I'd also consider myself a recreational lifter as I quite simply enjoy doing it. Really helps me reduce stress.

Recreational lifter. Compete against myself. I fit into bodybuilding for a brief while and may fit into the powerlifting category some time down the road.

Well, the Strong Man category is out straight away for me! haha
I have too many limitations with my back to be a true powerlifter.
Attempting Deadlifts etc would totally screw me up
I have a huge interest in the field of bodybuilding, even though I'm not so sure I would ever compete.
So, I guess at this current point in time I think the "Just a Lifter" category is the most applicable even though I am enjoying seeing changes in muscle shape and function like a bodybuilder would. A foot in both camps maybe?

A mixed of bodybuilder and power lifter. I cycle between the two phases.

Power lifter is for pride, ego, to lift big... while bodybuilder is to look good and bigger lol.

x2 I can't call myself a bodybuilder since I don't live that extremely strict lifestyle. I just want to get stronger and bigger and leaner

Seems that most of us are power lifters or recreational lifters that use power lifting programs. I'm in good company

I'd like to say Oly lifter, but I don't have enough time to dedicate to lifting to get serious about it. Just a recreational lifter here.

In the end my main goal is body building. I want to look like a body builder and lift/move heavy weights
