Building a Monster Upper Back

A huge and thick upper back is the hallmark of the alpha strength athlete. Only those with the fortitude and will to train with the requisite intensity will achieve the kind of upper back that literally intimidates and inspires awe in all who see it.

If you truly want the biggest and strongest back possible, it is necessary to combine the best of both the powerlifting and bodybuilding worlds!

How and when can someone be considered a professional powerlifter

What would you guys consider criteria for a powerlifter to be considered a pro? Obviously I would assume a certain level of experience, knowledge, competitions, sponsors, etc. But is there a set level of criteria for one to assume a title of "PRO"? Just curious.

My understanding is that it is simply based on your total. Experience, knowledge, competitions, and sponsors are not a factor. If someone showed up at their first meet and hit the numbers then they would considered a Professional.

I am sure that some of the guys here can better explain it though.

A pro is someone that competes in pro meets. Pro meets are usually the top lifters in their respected lift and offer some type of monetary reward. Several federations have pro meets based on being invited, total or just signing up for the meet. Also, each pro meet rules,etc will vary from federation to federation too. So, almost any lifter in the powerlifting community can compete as a pro or call themself a pro lifter. I have competed in two NASA Pro meets(2008 & 2009) and won almost $2300 in cash.

Sponsorship has nothing to do with being a pro, but competing in pro meets can help you get a sponsor or two,etc.

The ProAm had a total you had to get in order to lift on pro day. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but it was something simple like:

242-2300
275-2400
308-2500
SHW-2600

etc etc

I know the 242's is 2200, but I'm not sure what the others are.

To get a pro total, for sure.

Thats a limited rating scale though, you have raw guys and singleply guys who are in the same ballpark of strength, but they obviously can't make a "pro" total.

For multiply lifting, on a handful of guys get pro totals every year. I would imagine it to be < 1-2% of competitive powerlifters.. but i could be wrong.

yeah i consider "pro" to be by qualifying total at the powerstation pro-am.not sure all the totals of all weight classes but believe some of them are

181=1810
198=1925
220=2100
242=2200
275=2300

If you don't think it's possible, then you'll never do it.
