Building a Monster Upper Back

A huge and thick upper back is the hallmark of the alpha strength athlete. Only those with the fortitude and will to train with the requisite intensity will achieve the kind of upper back that literally intimidates and inspires awe in all who see it.

If you truly want the biggest and strongest back possible, it is necessary to combine the best of both the powerlifting and bodybuilding worlds!

Thanks for posting this up man!

Also, just to clarify, NO elbow sleeves, just knee sleeves. It's too hard to distinguish between someone using an elbow sleeve or an elbow wrap

If you really have a hard time going without your elbow sleeves, use them for all but your video sets, just take them off for the last couple sets that you are going to be submitting.

Brilliant prizes. Looking forward to putting my total up.

Not a chance I'll win but want to rank as high as possible.

Also Kiaran entered before the deadline. He doesn't frequent this forum as much as me, so I figured I'd give you the heads up .

I am surprised that we haven't seen more posts about PL meet prep since I am sure that everyone is going to want to get the most out of their total.

Looking forward to seeing some of the videos roll in. There is a great price package on the line for this one.

Indeed. Just because there's only a few of you in the competition doesn't mean the rest of us aren't watching! How's that for some pressure?

Of course I got the flu the day after I joined in on this. So this week is a total bust. Now I only got 4 weeks to try and at least make a decent showing for myself. Grrr, stupid flu gettin' in the way of my mediocrity. lol

there was some discussion about what everyone was doing to prep for the meet in the original thread. I think the general consensus was that the meet is too close and everyone is just sticking to what they have been doing.

That makes sense, I wouldn't change my whole training program around but I can think of a few tricks to make sure that you PR on the test day.

Things like pyramid progression and dietary adjustments can be effective even if you only have a couple of weeks to "peak".

I'm in the competition, but I don't think I'm in contention for anything. I rank among the weakest of the weak here. Did deadlifts tonight - got 345 x 8. That is an all time PR for me. Got my bodyweight back down to 176.4 lbs from a high of 182 on Monday. Hmmm... trash talk? I'm on old bastich! I'm 43 and have a total of 31 consecutive weeks of training under my belt for the past two years. I am challenging all you young punks to beat the ornery, old, grouchy malcontent that is me. I also plan on sending what rank I want on the back of a $100 bill to both Travis and Vinny (I'll still come out $50 ahead!)

I have a few questions about the competition. Are we to wear a singlet when we lift or just wear whatever? Are we to mention the amount of weight on the bar before a lift. I do know some lifters use a 55 pound bar and that may throw the amount off when watching the videos. Do the lifts have to be done on the same day? Can't wait to get my total.
