Any project managers or engineers for engineering consulting firms on the board?

I'm just curious really... I'm taking my design 1 class this semester and my teacher is super cool, he's worked in industry for over 20 years running his own engineering consulting business. I am in love with design, but of course I wanted to see what other people who have any experience in the real world have to say about it. So lets hear it

What do you want to know? What type of engineering? What type of design? That is way to broad.

I'm an engineer and project manager for a medical device company. My degree is in electrical engineering. I'm not sure what you want to hear.

well i'm doing biochemical engineering so anything medicine, biotech, related, plus i enjoy the 'dirty' stuff too, aka any design related stuff to power plants or separations or production of chemicals like benzene/toluene or sulfuric acid and the like.

I want to know what its like, are you working 60-80 hours a week? do you bid on contracts do you design completely unique stuff or do you use existing stuff to solve a unique problem.

I work a normal 40 hour week. I'm not a contractor. I work on several projects and developement of new products. Basically a customer says they need something that does this and we then make a product that meets their needs.

well design work is never like class. management doesn't quote a project for enough time/money to do it the right way, your ideas are bastardized into something you don't want in review meetings then you just want the thing out the door so you don't have to look at it anymore. . . still better than most other jobs.

haha so ive been told, my teacher is the founder/ceo if TAI engineering he constantly reiterates that there is never enough time or money, especially with government funded projects.
