The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

HELP w/ Olympic weight set, power rack, and adjustable bench!

This is probably a stupid question, but I figured I'd run it by you guys. I'm not going to be able to afford any fancy selectorized dumbbells for a long time, and I'm a bit worried I'm not going to be doing enough. Will I be overloading my muscles enough?

I figure I can do 2-3 exercises per muscle group with what I have...

    Chest:
    bench press
    incline bench press
dips (when I buy a second Oly bar)

    Back:
    pull-ups/chin-ups
    bent over row

    Shoulders/Traps:
    overhead press
    upright row
    shrugs

    Legs:
    squat
    front squat
    SLDL

    Arms:
    barbell curls
    overhead tricep extensions

    Everything:
    deadlift
    cleans

Am I missing anything? Also, I'm worried about becoming imbalanced (left/right and front/back).

I have a power rack, adjustable bench, OLY bars + 780lbs of weights and I can work everything. I also have an OLY platform and OLY bench but those are just accessories. You should be able to perform almost all exercises with a BB and a rack/bench. You could also make your own cable system for stuff like press downs.

Do you feel you are well balanced with only that equipment? I've been using barbells and dumbbells for so long with success that I'm a bit worried I may end up with some sort of imbalance without the ability to isolate left and right.

How would you develop an imbalance using a barbell? If you really want to get dumbells you can do what I did. I went to a metal shop, got the guy to cut me two 18''x2'' pieces of metal and I just used hockey tape wrapped around the bar to stop the plates from smashing into my hand. I bought alot of 10lbers and 5lbers so I can load up the plates. This will also help your grip strength (because of the thick handles).

Both setups look pretty good. If you can do the exercises you listed with a moderate amount of weight you should be fine.
