The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    WOD

    ME Power Cleans

I didn't ME. Just did a zillion reps (ok..50) up to 135lbs and worked on form. Getting much better.

    Then.

    250 Double Unders
60 Bulgarian Split Squats (24" box)
60 Box Step Ups, half with a 45 plate on top

Someone built us a Prowler. I look forward to trying it out.

Fasting today after lunch until lunch tomorrow. Got another workout tonight at the Y. Should be interesting.

For box jumps, use elastic to hold the weight in place? Therabands?

They'd just give me crap about it..lol

It would be cool to have stackable, semi-locking inserts maybe 2-3" high though.

    WOD

3,000 meter row. About 12 minutes. Forgot to look at the end. Took a slow, strong pace.

That's it. Had to go into work early.

They'd give you crap about making another box? Kind of the issue I have with CrossFit. While I like the idea of the minimalist training, sometimes, I feel some people just subscribe to that ideology too passionately to the point where they miss the functionality and purpose of adding new things.

Was there more to the WOD than just a 3k row? What kind of wattage do you usually output?

make a couple 4" boxes to put the larger box on top of. On your box put a non slip surface on it so that the box you put on top of it doesn't slip.

safer than adding shitloads of plates..

Nah, They'd be receptive to a new type of box. Trying to secure the plate stack with something on the fly would probably get me some ribbing, but it's all in fun. Honestly, although some people like to be all hardcore, we're really a rare affiliate in that we have very few of those people. I wish I had time to build a progressive box though. Maybe I'll give it some thought.

That was just my own WOD because i couldnt come in at a regular wod time. I honestly never pay attention to the power output. It was 25/26sm at about a 2:05 500m pace then I went full retard for the last 500m. I wasn't crushing it though overall. I was 17 hours into my fasting so I just wanted a good sweat.

what is s/m? I initially thought it was seconds/meter but that obviously can't be right. Is it strokes/minute?

I did a 500m sprint yesterday and finised in 1:32.4. (no, I didn't beat you), it said I was 38s/m.

Excuse: over 120 strict pullups this week, heavy rows tuesday, 725 rack pull + 275x20 and 335x10 squat the previous day and it was at the end of my workout.

yeah yeah, excuses are like assholes. I'm going sub 1:20 in a few months.

    Yeah it's strokes/minute.

    Rofl...excuses? How bout this one.

You deadlift double, bench double, and squat double what i do. You're a man beast. I'm just a dude who works out consistently inconsistently.

Guess I'll have to go for a PR soon. That's only probably the third time I've been in the rower this year though. I might need a tuneup..lol

In all seriousness...sub 1:20 is elite level. The world record is like 1:10 I think. Maybe you should shoot for 1:27 or so??

IF requires too much planning for me. I just did it to get my mind focused on my body fat/diet goal. I'll probably do it again soon. It's really not that terrible if your insulin is leveled off for a couple days beforehand.

Jake I expect to see you in the concept 2 world finals!

I think it's the exact opposite. Just skip breakfast and start eating at noon. Make sure you get your typical daily caloric intake. Boom, IF simplified.

1:20 won't get me to world finals. 1:13 will. I have no drive to get to 1:13, hahahaha.

Jake I missed your post about the box stacks. Wonder what kind of non-slip I could use?

    WOD

    9,6,3

    Front Squat (185)
    KB swing (70lb)
    Burpee Box Jumps
    Push Press (185)

Since 185 is my push press 1rm and 20lbs under my front squat 1rm, I didn't Rx. 135 is more like it. And, because of back pain I went with 95lbs. . This is really getting old.

Took me 7:04. Much harder than it looks. No one in my class Rx'd it but the coach and another advanced guy (made regionals this summer) ran it Rx. They finished in 6:44 and 7:33, respectively. Purty good.

-15 dead hang pullups. 6 in a row to start, which is a PR.
    -67 double Unders
    Stretching and groaning followed.

    Thanks!

It was leg intensive for sure. I really don't mind burpees though. I even kind of like them. :o

Off work until next Tuesday. Diet has been stellar. Gonna try like hell to get to 199 by Thursday then be very conservative with my holiday eating. We've got big dinners Thursday and Friday, then tailgating Saturday. Gonna be tough!!

Baseline workout? I'll have to look that up. Ok I looked it up before posting this..lol I see a different baseline workout everywhere I click. What was yours?

I wish, Rob. I'm pretty happy with 6 though. I had never been able to do even ONE pullup until last summer. Haven't been working on them directly until the last couple weeks.

    WOD for today.

    4 Rounds

400m run (ours is actually 1/4 mile)
    50 Double Unders

    14:08 Rx

Pretty damned happy with this. My very ambitious goal was 15:00. I basically had about a 7 min mile and 7min for 200 double Unders. I kept up the same run pace from
start to finish, which is a first. I've never run a 7min mile, and certainly not with double unders in the mix. Finished first for once..lol. Looks like my evening workouts are already making a difference.

After that, ran one more quarter with a girl who was in her last round and about out of gas.

Then 3 x 10 seconds of L sits, a few pullups, about 50 singles, and one more mile run. A good first workout after the thanksgiving binge.
