The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks fellas. I like the supersets. Not only am I usually short on time but the Crossfit in me doesn't like to stand around and wait between sets..lol

Was gonna take today off since my 3 day stretch of workouts with the wife begin tomorrow but it was a good chance to get some more shoulder work.

    Press (seated. Low ceilings.)

    65 x 3
    85 x 5
    95 x 5
    105 x 5
    95 x 5
    95 x 5

Widened my grip a few inches and had much better takeoff power. Gotta remember that.

Arnold Press (I think? Has a lower start point and DB's turned inward at bottom)

    30's x 8
    30's x 8
    30's x 8

    Superset with DB Rows

    30's x 8
    30's x 8
    50lb KB X 8

Did mini band pull-aparts between my press sets. Got 75 in I think. I do these 3-4 evenings a week during my TV time mobility/stretch time. I've been working on stretching the chest and shortening the shoulder blade area to correct my posture but I feel like the pull-aparts are helping in-general. I read some articles recently that really stressed their importance.

I honestly thought this would take 10-15 minutes and wanted it to. Oops. With the cold outside and limited equipment at the moment I'm struggling to find a way to get us closer to 20 minutes+ on days with no lifting involved. She was miserable afterward for about 20 minutes. I'm noticing that she only has one speed..full throttle..lol. It'll be great for her at some point but until she learns when and where to breathe it's gonna hurt for a while.

    Deadlifts tonight!

Try some ghetto t-bar rows. Great lift for your lats and spinal erectors.

Funny you should mention that. I was planning on ordering a V handle for rows but there's a lot of bicep there. I went ahead and ordered the T handle last night. Ghetto Rows, here I come.

Also built a weighted PVC bar for the wife and a DIY 50lb sand bag, a jump top and gloves for her and a 4" belt for me. Throw all that together and that's 1 month of my crossfit membership. Next month I'll probably order another bar and a med ball. Really puts the cost of membership in perspective.

    This morning..

    Arnold Press

    30/30 x 8
    30/30 x 8
    40/40 x 8

    Rear Lateral Raise

    10/10 x 10
    15 x 6
    15 x 10
    15 x 10

    Barbell Press (seated)

    65 x 3
    95 x 3
    95 x 3
    105 x 3
    115 x 3

    Superset with..

    Lateral Raise

    15/15 x 10
    15 x 10
    15 x 10

It's funny how weak my delts are when isolated like that. Gotta keep that up. Press felt pretty good. Again with a slightly wider grip and I actually put the bench on incline so I had some support. Before that, I had trouble figuring out where to put my feet.

Yes sir. Doing a bit of experimenting while things are still out of sorts as i get her familiar with movements.

    Front Squat

    95 x 3
    135 x 3
    165 x 2
    195 x 5
    205 x 5
    215 x 5
    225 x 1
    235 x 1

DB Lunge (superset with Barbell Good Mornings)

    135 x 8
    40's x 10
    135 x 8
    40 x 10
    135 x 8
    40 x 10
    135 x 8

Short on time. Front squats weren't all pretty but speed was good and depth was bottomed out. Kept rest intervals short to create some intensity. Did band pull aparts between sets and 50 sit-ups to finish the workouts.

    95 x 3
    115 x 3
    135 x 3
    155 x 2
    165 x 5
    175 x 4
    175 x 4

    DB Bench Press

    40's x 5
    50 x 5
    60 x 5
    60 x 5

    Dips

    Bw x 5, 5 , 5

Everything just felt HEAVY. Had to rush through it to beat the snow before work.

    P.M. (Wife too)

    TABATA

    Burpees
    2min rest

    KB Swings (10lb, 50lb)
    2min rest

Thrusters (her, 6lb bar. Me 20lb dumbbells)

    Burpees weren't bad. KB got tough at round 5. Thrusters were Le M I S E R A B L E.

Both still kicking ass on the diet too.

Kills me just to get 4.

T-Bar Row (with my shiny new T Bar!)

    45 x 8
    90 x 8
    105 x 8
    105 x 8
    135 x 8

    Deadlift

    155 x 3
    185 x 1
    205 x 3

    225 x 3
    255 x 3
    275 x 3
    300 x 2

Loved the T bar. Came into it feeling tight. Spent all day at my desk at work. Tends to tighten things up.

Yeah I love it. It works well and is more comfortable/stable than a BB Row. Thanks for the read.

Rear Lateral Raise (pull-aparts between sets)

    15's x 8
    15 x 8
    15 x 8
    15 x 8

Arnold Press (pull-aparts and stretching between sets)

    30's x 8
    35 x 8
    35 x 8
    35 x 8

Superset mix- BB Press, alternating Side Lateral Raise/Front Raise

    95 x 5
    20's x 8

    105 x 5
    35lb Plate

    95 x 4
    20's x 8

    95 x 4
    35lb plate

    95 x 4
    20's x 8
    35lb plate

    20's x 8
    35lb plate

Out of gas for the BB Press but I got some reps in. I'm getting better at managing my time. Got all that done in 45min. Also enjoying the active rest--keeps the intensity up.

Diet is still spot-on. I expect to be under 210 on my next weigh-in.

Thanks. I was correct too. Weighed in at 209. I can usually see and feel it at this point.

Did 10min on the elliptical in the morning. It sucked so I quit..lol. On to the evening.

Workout (w/wife) Superset SLDL/ Lunge and Squat/GM for intensity

    Her - SLDL

    65 x 8
    70 x 8
    70 x 8

    15 x 10

    Squat

    65 x 5
    75 x 5
    75 x 5
    75 x 5

Good Mornings (w/mini band under foot, strapped to a 6lb PVC bar on back)

    15, 15, 15, 15

    Me

    Lunge

    40's x 10
    40's x 10
    40's x 10
    40's x 10

    SLDL

    135 x 8
    185 x 8
    205 x 8
    205 x 8

    Squat

    155 x 2
    185 x 5

    225 x 5

    GM

    135 x 5
    135 x 5
    135 x 5

I'm diggin all these super sets. The numbers suffer a bit but t really makes the workouts intense. She's doing great and dropping weight and I can really see the changes the lifting has made. She still hates squat because the bar crushes her shoulders. I did order her some pink gloves. She says they make her more of a badass. Haha.

Thanks guys. Coke you're a swell guy as well. Holdin' down the WBB journal pages like a champ!

    Tuesday

Full shoulders workout, highlighted by a 135 BB press as my last rep, totally fatigued. Feels like a PR on the horizon.

    Thursday a.m.

    Full chest workout.

    Thursday p.m.

Cleans with the wife. Worked up to 175 x 3. Haven't done them in a while.

    Then 4 rounds

Power Clean 135 x 10 (wife did DB full cleans)
KB Sumo High Pull x 15 (wife did 27lb bar)

    Me 10:20
    Her 14:22

That workout was sooo bad. I didn't think it would be like that. I'm hurtin' top to bottom and she has threatened to cancel our Valentine's fancy dinner if she can't walk tomorrow..LOL
