The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Man it's driving me nuts. Diet contest ends in a week and I'd really benefit from some running.

    Yesterday-short one

    Front Squat

    135 x 3
    155 x 3
    175 x 3
    185 x 3
    205 x 1

    DB Lunge

3 sets of 40's x 10. These still suck as much as ever.

    SLDL

    95 x 5
    115 x 3
    145 x 5
    165 x 5
    185 x 5

Probably gonna do an upper and abs this evening.

thank you sir. i figure if i'm short on time i better do something worth the time.

    Evening Effort

    Dips

    bw x 5
    +10 x 5
    +15 x 5
    +15 x 5
    +15 x 5 (+15 are all PR's)

Superset the dips with 4 sets of some kind of abdominal movement. it's a tuck bringing the arms and legs up all the way at the same time while holding a 10lb plate. i'm sure it has a name but i dont have time to look..lol did 4 sets of 15 along with soem pull-aparts,

    DB Bench Press

    40's x 6
    50's x 6
    50's x 6
    50's x 6
    55's x 6

would have done more but my other 10lb plates were upstairs. i realized before the last set that i had a couple of 7.5's, which got me the 55lbs..lol

    CGBP

    135 x 5
    145 x 5
    145 x 5

    Met-Con afterward

    4 Rounds

    25 KB Swings (50lb)
    25 Sit-ups
    25 Ball Slams (20lb)

Time was 14:54. Pretty tough and good for a breather. I'll redo it in a couple months to compare.

Yesterday did some press and DB press.

    Today..

    T Bar Row

    45 x 6
    70 x 6
    90 x 6
    115 x 6
    140 x 6

    Deadlift

    115 x 5
    135 x 5
    165 x 5
    185 x 5
    205 x 5
    235 x 5
    265 x 1 x 1 x 1

Nothing special. Took a video. Please check my form. I feel like my hips are either too low or shooting up before the pull even begins. I don't even know if I can arch my lower back any more than that. You might need to paste the link if my embedding doesn't work.

Biggest thing I see is that you don't appear to be pulling back into you. You're pulling straight up and it's leaving you out over the top of your feet. You don't start to try and pull back into you until you're above the knees. This is going to be hard for you to do with max weight. Try pulling the tension out of the bar before you squeeze it off the floor. As soon as it starts to break off the floor, pull back into you harder.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

I am pretty far out. I've always had trouble keeping the bar close for some reason. I'll practice with something lighter. I really need more legs/hips involved.

    Workout...

    Power Clean

    10 reps each of

    75
    85
    95
    105
    115
    125
    135
    145
    155
    165

100 reps. Got pretty tough by 155. Did it at my own pace so with cleans and cleaning (laundry) it took about an hour.

    - 50 sit-ups

-4 Rounds of 50 double Unders/400m run. Took a couple minutes between rounds so it took about 25 minutes.

Tomorrow morning is the weigh-in for the diet contest. I've go e from 216-ish to 206, and hopefully 204 by tomorrow. i'm trying to sweat a lot..lol. It's been 9 weeks I think? I've stayed under 2400 calories pretty much every day. It's been very easy to stick with this--especially after we got a food scale. My wife is down 13lbs at this point. She's also stuck with the workouts. I'm very proud.

Grand prize is $600. It's mostly people with a lot more to lose than me at the same weight. I don't expect to win it, but she has a good shot at 1st or 2nd ($125). We shall see..

Thanks fellas. I ended up at 11.6lbs lost for the weigh-in and the wife was at 17. She cane in a very close 2nd place. A lot of people did very well, which is nice to see. Hopefully they'll stick with it. I feel pretty good but I've got another 10-15lbs to go I think. I made it through those runs on Tuesday without foot pain, so that's a bonus. If it'll warm up to the 40's in the mornings I'll start adding more runs.

Did a short upper body workout yesterday. Never really got in a groove.

Got started a little earlier today but took my time with squats so I didn't get my lunges in.

    Squat

    135 x 5
    165 x 5
    195 x 5
    215 x 5
    225 x 1
    235 x 1
    245 x 1
    255 x 1
    265 x 1
    280 x 1 --> ALL TIME PR.

Feelin good about the 280. It came up pretty fast with almost no lean forward. I definitely could have had 290 and maybe 300 today but I was keeping my rest intervals at or under 90 seconds to save time.

    SLDL

    95 x 6
    135 x 6
    165 x 6
    185 x 6
    205 x 6

Gonna be getting a little more structured soon now that the contest is over. Going to be alternating Squat and Deadlift one week and Front Squat and Cleans the next. Bought some bumpers too and a 30lb bar for her so we'll be doing some workouts in the driveway. She HATES to run. I've never actually seen her do it unless a bee was nearby, but I'm gonna try to coax her into some short ones or sprints. We shall see..lol

    Thanks fellas!

Can't believe I haven't posted since March 22..lol. My basement is in the middle of renovations. Finally got it painted for the most part but not quite finished and everything is covered in plastic coated with drywall dust..lol. I hope to have the basement back in a week or so. I've been working out sporadically, using my KB, running, jump rope, etc. grabbed my wife's 6ft/32lb Oly bar and managed to fit it in my family room for some thrusters.

Every minute on the minute for 15min

7 Thrusters (80lb) on odd minutes
15 KB swings on the evens

Got through it all without missing a minute. It really got tough around the 11th minute. I struggle with thrusters do I wore my Oly shoes and tried to catch the bar with fingers to keep me upright then get my palms back under the bar as I started my push. It helped. I've been working hard to lengthen my shoulder ROM so I can get my elbows higher too.

I have some Rogue 45lb bumpers on the way.that should give me enough bouncy plates to do what I need on the platform for a while. I live getting gear in the mail. I feel sorry for the UPS guy. When I got my last bumpers he actually felt bad and offered to bring them inside for my wife..lol. He's gonna love getting a 90lb box this time.

Yeah..thanks for noticing..lol It's been a busy place around here the past couple weeks. Hopefully in another week or less I'll have my gym back up and running.

    Got in a workout yesterday.

    4 Rounds

    10 med ball cleans @ 20lbs
    25 double Unders
    400m run

Took about 22 minutes. I butchered the double unders magnificently. I hate doing them in my Nike's and I'm still pretty sore in the legs from Tuesday's thrusters. After the first round I never got a set bigger than 10. The running has been feeling pretty good though. Good stamina and no foot pain, so that's encouraging.

    Thanks coke.

Basement still under plastic but we're making progress. Took the bar out in the driveway this morning.

    4 Rounds

    10 Power Clean @ 120lbs
    30 Double Unders

Took about 13 minutes. I wasn't trying to kill myself. I used the 6ft bar and noticed the weight is harder to move the more narrow the bar. I had intended to do it at 140/150 but when I hit 140 in the warmup it felt really frickin heavy. Wasnt a weight I was about to do 40 reps of..lol

No doubt..lol. I feel like I'm weakening by leaps and bounds without my squats..lol

Today. Found this one on wodshop.com. I've been struggling to get structured with things being so disorganized so I had wodshop generate me one. Pretty tough.

21-15-9. Bear Complex. Sets are performed at 75, 95 and 115lbs.

    Power Clean
    Front Squat
    Push Press
    Back Squat
    Push Press

Used the shorter/lighter bar again so my weights were 72, 92, 117. Took me about 23 minutes including the prescribed 2 min rest between rounds. Hit my neck vertebrate 3 times, which is why I don't like dropping the bar behind my neck or high bar squats. Now I've got a bruise.

Yeah it hurt. My triceps were really sore afterward from fighting to control the bar on the way down..lol

    Yesterday..

    10 Front Squat @ 105lbs
    470m Run
    3 rounds

It was a good sweat. I wanted to do 5 rounds but got started WAAAAY late. I think it took me about 11-12 minutes. I accidentally cleared my timer around the 9 minute mark.

Weighed in at 204 this morning. Took a couple weeks off the diet after the contest ended but back on track now. Target before the contest was 2,400 calories. Now it's 2,080. Hopefully it'll go a little faster now. Taking the wife and kids to Sea World June 18th, so I'll stick with it until then. My brother and his wife are coming in for a visit from Korea in July too. They're Vegan so I'll probably be on my best non-Vegan diet behavior then too..lol

Today (yeah! Two in a row!)

    5 Rounds

    50 Double Unders
    490m Run

Took 24 minutes. Wore me out too..lol

No workout tomorrow. I'll be doing a ton of rock shoveling, hauling and spreading, and cutting down a giant Honeysuckle bush that's snarled into barbed wire. This will be the third today recently I've had to haul rock and this past Sunday I was doing the landscaping/bush shit for 9 hours. I can't imagine doing that every day. I was beyond worn out..lol
