NY Jet's Sister is one strong football player

Take a look at this article...
    http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/20583116/

She is the sister of the NY Jets Center Nick Mangold.. a pretty good player...
"A 17-year-old senior who weighs 315 pounds and can bench press 264 and squat 525, she won a varsity letter last year, appearing in 20 quarters of play as a back-up offensive lineman. "

I have all the respect for "girls" that compete against "boys".. and this girl has obviously decided to follow her big brother...

But, as the father of 2 girls, I just can't imagine my little girls choosing football... I just can't imagine them getting hit by boys ... especially on every play like a lineman does.. I think my heart would break.

But I should would support her as a Powerlifter... that is pretty good strength for a high schooler... even a SHW...

Pretty cool stuff... way to go Holley!!

    And she is very practical...
""“I’m very, very slow,” she said with cheerful honesty. “That’s probably why I’m not starting right now, because I’m slow. And I’m short. And I’m not really in that much good shape. The NFL is not one of those things I’m thinking about, but college is definitely a reality. I’m just not sure yet.”

"“Sports are defining for her. It’s something she lives for,” said Vern. “She also is a power lifter, an Olympic lifter. She also does track. Like all of our kids, they have a lot of activities; football just happens to be one of them.”
    "

And I don't think she should be ridiculed for her chosen path... a lot of HS boys wish they could get her strength and size... and play HS Football!! Those that do, should look into a mirror first... everybody makes their own choices.. and we live in a free society (almost anyway).

315 lbs, squats 4 times what I weigh, benches double my weight... bear, this ain't no little girl.

    She'll be FINE.

    So awesome.

woah thats crazy. but it would be weird playing football against a girl....

although she would probly lay me out.

but then again I would give her the shake and bake.

At 315 and probably well under 6 feet, she ain't gonna be light on her feet.

    I think you're safe..lol

Our local highschool let a girl play football my senior year. She was two grades under me...

5 min into our first full contact practice I shattered her shoulder in a hitting drill... this gal on the other hand might have given me a go.

Nothing like hitting something real soft, moving real slow. 300+ going against 180lb linemen that maybe can squat 225lbs doesn't impress me that much. Football is a tough sport, props for her giving it a shot, but college? Come on.

There is nothing good about a 315 pound woman, unless she's ten feet tall.

Edit: Wow, I just looked at her picture. That girl will be dead in a couple of years if she's not careful. She is not healthy at all. I hope that her condition isn't the result of her parents pushing her.

yea she is carrying some serious weight.

on a positive note, she could take up two positions on the O-line and allow for another wideout.

She's probably in the range of 50% bodyfat, most men who are that heavy play at a college or pro level and are in the range of 20-25% bodyfat. Big difference

I wonder how tall she is? Unless she is really tall she probably has no chance to succeed at the college level at that weight. Plus she'd be going up against guys who can squat just as much or more and bench a heck of a lot more.

She might make some small slackoff divison 3 college football team, but things change greatly.

I went from being a shark in a little pond to a little shrimp in a big ocean. There are some big boys playing football... especially Division 1.

Your average male football player that weighs 315 probably wasn't the stunt double for Lonestar's Winnebago in "Spaceballs."

I honestly don't think she would have the "room" for her thighs to squat to parallel...I don't really believe those lift numbers. A friend of mine is 5'11'' and 310lbs and his body fat percent looks to be MUCH lower than hers; however womens body fat percent is crazy and I have not seen her in person.
She dwarfed her brother and she is supposedly only 16 pounds heavier...something doesn't add up!

She needs to seriously lose some weight. Yes...great on the lift numbers...but her weight is not healthy at all. Still...kudos to her.
