I'd just like to know about the discrepancies between using a smith machine vs bench press. which one is better for measuring your max? i know that when using a smith machine it is more geared towards focusing mainly on your pecs, since you dont have to stabilize. but with regular bench you do. the thing is that my max on a smith machine is 245. but on the regular bench press i can only push about 195. i weigh in at 160. is there any way i can equalize? i can dumbell press 200 but my bench press is what is disappointing me. shouldnt one be able to bench more than they press? my numbers on the smith seem reasonable but my bench sux.
