I haven't been lifting very long.
I was wondering what the best between-set rest time is, I've heard everything from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
Thanx in advance.
its all up to how your body reacts to exersize
the rule is 60 to 120 seconds
I dont pay too much attention I try to keep it as short as possible to keep the length of the workout down
I do another set when I'm ready. Usually about 40 seconds. On compound exercises (squats, deadlifts, etc.) it's usually a little longer.
well on smaller exercises (db curls, leg extensions, stuff like that) rest usually about 40 seconds. On squats, deads, benching, rows, shrugs, the heavier compound movements, I'll take 2 minutes usually.
definatley an individual thing.. I take whatever i need to take that particular day, I dont time it, I dont look at the clock, I go by what my body tells me..
BUMP to see what other people reccomend.
I read 3 minutes, and that is what I do. I guess it sucks for me If I have been taking wayyyy to long inbetween sets for the last 9 months.
Doesn't it take 3 min for ATP to replenish though?
Well I believe it depends on what you're training for. If you're lookin for strength and lifting very heavy then I recomend 2-4 minutes between sets. But, if you're trying to put on mass (i.e. to stimulate the release of testosterone and GH) then rest periods would be best kept to 60-90 seconds.

I do a lot of ab work in between other sets to keep my heart up!
i rest up to 1-5 minutes. if squating heavy or deading heavy I can be nearly 5 minutes especially if drop setting a squat. it take a while to recover properly.
while calf raise I rest like a minute.
